Anyone know the technical reason we get tipsy sooner? My husband thinks it's a myth and I can't seem to explain it to him. I tell him that I do but he wants to know why...can anyone explain it in plain english. Trish

There are several reasons. One our tummys are smaller so they dont hold as much food which helps reduce the alcohol in our system and we cant hold as much in there so it gets pushed through faster. Two.. it goes through much quicker into your system through the pouch since it is not held as long in the pouch by the muscle that the normal tummy would have. Three. It goes directly into the system through our small intestines.. Note that we also sober up much quicker as well..

As they lessened the amount of intestine traveled the alcohol is more quickly absorbed through the intestine we have left....entering the blood stream quicker thereby we get tipsy faster! It's no myth mister! We also don't have as many carbs in the stomach as we usually do (think bar food) so there isn't much to absorb it. ANDI

My doctor told me it has to do with the way they by pass some of our organs, our pancreas (sp) works differently and will (for some of us) (dump insulin) and that with the tine pouch we get drunk fast... I can not have more than 1 drink and sometimes not even that

Trish - There was an article in the OH mag. that said that there is an enzyme in the stomach that keep the alchol in the stomach longer and releases it slowly therefore increasing the time we have to metabloize the alochol. With RYN, the enzyme is lost and the alcohol goes straight to being metabolized therefore cause faster intoxication. Gaye
