I notice a lot of crackers, breads and other carbs being eaten a lot lately. We all know the rule of thumb with this surgery... its protein first, veggies and fruit second and last but not least it is the carbs. oh how we love our carbs.. i do too. I made a commitment in may to give up all those carbs and focus on loosing this weight. I avoid carbs that are not necessary at all cost.. including sometimes my sanity. yes it is hard, but I gave up a lot to loose this weight and I am not gonna fail in my attempts. Please do not think I am flaming anyone here.. just putting out a reminder of where we are all trying to go.. this is some of the things I do to make sure I get those proteins in. every morning i make a protein drink and drink it on the way to work. On the weekends I make extra meat and chicken and take it to work with me in baggies so I can warm them up each day and have my lunch. I also open a can of veggies and put them in a container so each day I can make this little meal complete. When I have to travel I have travel size tuna cans, chicken cans that I can put in my little igloo and eat on the way or know I will stop and get a chicken breast from a fast food place and toss the rest of the sandwich away. I keep snack size cheeses on hand at all times to take on the road or eat for my snack. Lastly I plan out my meals for dinner so every night I know what I will be making and what I can have. If it is something I cant have, i will eat something i can have. I have no problem making two different meals if it keeps me on track and moving closer to my goal. what kinds of things do you do to make sure you get all your protein in each day?

I have a bit of an unusual cir****tance because if I eat mostly all protein, my blood sugar levels drop severely (like in the 40s). My surgeon said it's a somewhat rare condition amongst weight loss surgery patients that previously were diabetic. Now the pancreas is basically working on overdrive and produces too much insulin, especially when not a lot of carbs are consumed to help counterbalance it. If I don't have some form of carbs with my protein, I will bottom out REALLY bad! So, I absolutely have to eat carbs. That being said, I make sure proteins are the base of my meal and then I supplement with whole grains or fruits. I try to keep a pack of nuts or a protein bar in my purse or I'll bring a small cooler bag with me so I can carry cheese. I keep in close contact with my dietician and she keeps me straight! Deanna

I still love my carbs. I do, however, have 1 or 2 protein shakes a day and I LOVE roasted almonds! I also love cottage cheese. Dar

i think that 50% of the time I eat 'normally' and the other 50% are from one extreme to the other. like a pure protein breakfast, lunch and dinner with steak or chicken, followed by a pure veggie lunch and then poof, I freak out and have a day or two of garbage.

I'm like Deanna and have to use carbs to balance my blood sugar, otherwise I go too low, but always go for proteins first and try to snack on protein. By the way, my fav snack at the moment is 1oz cheese cut into small cubes mixed with an equal volume of dried cranberries - delish!

I like you keep cheese snacks in the fridge and plan on trios with packets of protein snacks.. ( get from diet direct). I also eat microwave pork rinds from bar iatric eating .com I eat mostly protein but get some good carbs (beans mostly and protein chips ) and have low blood sugar and have to test it several times a day most days.
