PMS - How's your cycle?

I have NEVER had a regular cycle but the past 3-4 months I have begun to follow my cycle. I actually did research on what is normal because it was so unfamiliar to me. (It seems anywhere from 21-36 days is normal a normal cycle {length of the cycle is counted by starting with the first day of flow} and as long as you cycle once per year you can be considered healthy). I seem to be on a 21 day cycle and its killing me. Preop I would be on my period 7-8 days and then maybe not have another for 2-3 months sometimes longer. But now I'm almost like clockwork...No I am like clock work. I start my period....it lasts for 4 (horribly heavy) days...then 21 days from the start of it, it all starts over again. Which basically means ----I have PMS for a week, cycle for 4 days then 2 weeks later I'm starting over with PMS AGAIN!! I can handle the *****iness...my moods are better now but the cravings are killing me. I want carbs and chocolate almost nonstop the entire week before my period begins. I never had cravings pre op. I know this is probably too much info, but I wanted to if you have had changes in your cycle since surgery. Mandy

I was getting a really bad pain on my left side.. my doc said my hormones were out of wack because of the weight loss.. it would get better.. it did.. I am just the opposite during this time.. i may want more just before i start.. but could care less about food while i am on it.. go figure

I was never regular before. Most of the time I had few or no periods unless I was on the pill. I have gone over a year without one. Then other times I had continual bleeding for weeks at a time. Since surgery I have had regular periods. The first few were about 3 to 5 weeks apart, since then they have settled into a 28 day pattern, just like clockwork. They last 7 to 8 days. It is really quite amazing - and frustrating. I am almost 47 and before surgery I felt like I was well in the process of menopause. Few to no periods, hot flashes, etc. Now I am fertile Myrtle again, lol. I do seem to be ovulating, the whole bit. Where was this when I needed it when I was in my twenties? All in all though, aside from the general annoyance of having periods and the irony of it finally all working properly at this late date in my life, it is not a problem. They are not overwhelmingly heavy and although I get a little crampy, it is not too bad. I have a little mild PMS, some crankiness or the blues, but again, not too bad. I had PMS seriously enough when I was in my thirties to need medication for it, what they are calling PMD (disorder) now. This is nothing like that, just some unpleasantness that I know wiil pass in a couple of days. It's a good thing that I am abstinant, (I am a widow) I really am PAST the baby business, lol.

Hi Mandy! I'm regular now too! Before surgery I didn't get a period at all. Hence my infertility issues! Anyway, now they are like clockwork every 28-30 days. And heavy as all get out! Yuck! And I get major munchies the week before it starts but then during, I don't really care for food all that much. It's all new to me! Oh, and yes, I get really moody and irritable!!! Deanna

Hi Mandy! Well, I knew that with the rapid weight loss you get all the hormones dumped into your blood stream & that I would probably start while in the hospital!(yep I did) & that I would probably be very emotional (yep I was/am). I was so afraid after years of bad periods & then having an endometrial ablation(where they cauterize the lining of your uterus to slow/stop heavy bleeding) that I would go back to having really heavy periods. But I guess I am one of the lucky ones cause I just kept right on schedule 3-5 days like clockwork. Although I do notice I have the munchies in the few days prior to starting & I am very tired & emotional during that time. Yep the carb monster gets me too! So I guess the answer to your question is no mine didn't really change but I was worried it would. ~Missy~

yes, yes, yes and yes. I went from a 30 day cycle to a 21-22 day cycle, but SOME months it is a 45 day cycle, freaking weird moods, definite mood swings. downright biach for sure. extremely heavy flows, 4x - 6x my normal munchies are right up there as well. today I had a cinnamon roll, a protein bar, two slices of lunch meat, some fried okra, two bowls of black beans with sour cream, avacado, cheese and peach salsa, also polished off an obscene amount of grapes, wheat thins, some chocolate covered pretzels, a couple of slices of tenderloin, some spinach salad with strawberries, some lobster, a little bit of bourbon chicken, some lemon chicken, too much chocolate chip cookie, some peach tea, some coffee, and a butt load of after dinner mints. I think I never stopped eating all day today. KAT
