Carbs will destroy me!!
Okay after posting to the last thread I realized my food intake is ridiculous. Ive been scarfing down carbs like a maniac. I dont know how this happened. Do you think its because Ive been working out a lot lately, that my appetite has increased? Has this happened to any of you. How did you nip it in the bud? ( Yes, I know, "stop putting the food in your mouth for starters!" ) Surprisingly, I managed to lose 6 1/2 lbs in january despite this food dilema. Which brings me to
Question #2
My weight loss began slowing down in Nov. I have tracked it and lost 7 lbs in Nov, 6 lbs in Dec, and 6.5 lbs in Jan......is this where everyone is at? Or is everyone all that different?
How are you doing????
Thanks,
Kathryn
Dont think you're alone there.. I am losing very slowly now.. about the same as you.. It's hard to take after seeing the weight just drop off so easily over the past few months to go to this slow agonizing pace.. I am hunger too.. and I notice on days I exercise I want more food so i think it's our bodies saying feed me .. u used up all my stuff.. need more.. at least I hope it is.. scale isnt moving at all for me right now...
Yes, me too! My weight loss is slowing down slightly each month. I think that is normal the closer we get to our goal. It sounds like you are still doing really great though, Kathryn!
As far as working out, yes, you need to eat more! I just spoke with my dietician about this yesterday and she was VERY much in favor of increasing your calories on the days you exercise. She said if you don't eat "enough", you will lose lean muscle and you will have very poor muscle tone. Your body just can't function during a good work out if you don't have anything in your system to fuel it. I have a dietician *****commends around 1200-1500 calories for ME, based on my weight and body fat percentage. She said I could even eat as many as 1700 on days I exercise hard and still lose weight.
I'm sure everyone else has dieticians that have different theories but this is what mine told me!
I think it sounds like you're doing really well; don't beat yourself up! Good job for working out too!!!
Deanna
Deanna,
you always sound like a fitness expert - and I look forward to reading your workouts - AMAZING! I am going to speak to the dietician who leads the once a month support group I just started and ask her about a calorie range too. I've never tracked my food in take in terms of calories - I guess Im lazy
Thanks for the encouragement always helps motivate me to do/be better!
Thank
Kathryn
Yes this is happening to me too!! My weight loss slowed down in Nov to 6lbs then 4lbs in Dec then only 3 in Jan. But I seen a post on the Main board that says we should lose about 20% of our excess weight a month so it is suppose to slow down-how else would be stop when our body is ready to reach its goal(notice I said its goal not ours or our dr goal). I calculated my excess weight for jan & yes I should have lost 3.60lbs. so I guess I am on target but I was feeling bad about it cause I was eating the carbs. I hope I said all that correctly if not maybe someone else can shed some light on it. Oh yea & when you exercise you are suppose to increase calories although they should be good calories & good for you foods now if my head would just listen.hehe

Take a look at the main board at what Mariella ("Quinn's Mom") eats. She exercises like a fiend & eats a lot of food too, but she is totally hot! I say, if you are still losing, keep doing what works for you. I don't do lowfat or fat free anything. I think some long-term postops look like recovering cancer patients with their hollow eyes, grey skin, and dull looking hair.
Exercise is a huge key to looking good long-term. If it makes us eat more, then so be it! I need to do so much better in this area, I've got to lose 10-17 more pounds to get to my goal by May 1st. I know exercise is the answer. My exercise goal is at least 60-90 minutes daily, 5-6 days per week.
Are you PMS'ing? I am usually uncontrollable around food the week before my period. Then it levels out. Crazy hormones!
Hugs,
Dar
Dar,
Im not pms'ing - which usually is a trigger to eat more. I am just eating more in general, ya know. And I have to completely AGREE, some long term WLS patients DO look like death! There are a few ladies in my support group- which I love- who look sickly to me. I dont want to look that way. I want to be healthy and strong and hopefully that translates in to attractiveness! The more weight I lose, the more I care about my looks and I want to look as pretty as your pictures do!!
Thanks
Kathryn
Howdy Kathryn! Ok now here's my thing...eating carbs makes you crave other carbs. You need to stop eating carbs cold turkey, start upping your proteins! What you do is remember that to build lean muscle you have to add protein! Be Well and keep up the good work. I have to tell you that i'm slowing down as well but it's ok. ANDI
