Goal Weight:How did they calculate yours?
When I went to my nutrition class Wednesday this came up. The formula our nutritionis gave was......
Pre-op Weight - Ideal Weight (for a female 100 + 5 pounds for ea*****h over 5 foot) {I don't remember the equation for the men....sorry guys.} Take the difference and multiply by .25 Then add this amount back to the ideal Weight..Sounds confusing I know but here is how they figured my "ADJUSTED GOAL WEIGHT"
Preop Weight 328 - Ideal weight I'm 5'5" so 100 +(5x5)=125 = 203
203 x .25 = 50.75
Ideal Weight 125 + 50.75 = 175.75
So 175.75 would be my "adjusted goal weight". This is not the same as the goal weight I was given at the beginning of the program that goal was 155. I think I would be much more content with 155 but 175 sound very attainable.
The nutrionist also stated that she believes we know our bodies better than charts and formulas. Each person's body is different and carries weight differently.
I just wanted to share and see how your programs determined goal weights.

Mine is figured pretty much the same way. Except the ideal weight is using some chart for your height and age or something. Mind is a little higher then the 100 lbs + 5 lbs for every inch thing. But it's 75% of whatever the difference was between that and your starting. Basically there goal is for me to loose 75% of my excess weight. Which boils down to the same thing as your Dr. - only in different terms!
Do you think it's possible for us to loose 100% of our excess weight or do we have to be happy with only loosing 75%?
Don't get me wrong I will be much happier being at 75% rather than what I was before WLS but I would REALLY like to be my ideal weight...hmm.....
I suppose I could use the adjusted goal weight to aim for first and then try to go further. That way, I've only got 21lbs to go til the adjusted goal weight rather than 50lbs to my ideal weight.
To set my personal goal, I did a google search to find weight charts from the AMA I think and went with that. My doctor originaly set my goal (based on average weight loss) at 226. I wanted to see the scales under 200, so I set a personal goal of 190. I am currently at 187, so I re-established my goal at 170. That would put me about 5 pounds from my ideal weight and I know I have at least 5 pounds of excess skin that only PS will get rid of.
