Embarrassing, personal talk ...

Even though this is really embarrassing, I'm just going to lay it right out there ... Does anyone out there have a lack of sex drive lately. I just have no desire whatsoever and I think my husband is getting really sick of it! I know I should be feeling better about myself and for the most part, I am. So, is it a hormonal thing? I just feel tired all the time and frazzled by the end of the day. And by then, sex is the last thing on my mind! I am lucky to get 7 hours of sleep a night at the most, and I'm one of those people who does better with 8 hours of sleep. So I know I'm tired, which may be part of the problem. I work out a lot, which also makes me tired. So, it is just tiredness that is causing my lack of desire? Anyone else experiencing this lately? Deanna

Mine comes and goes...... At first, as I started loosing and felt better about myself, my sex drive really came back. Now - it has probably decreased a bit...and I can say that I'd have to agree with you about not really wanting sex because I'm so tired. By the time we go to bed at night, I'm exhausted and out like a light (such as difference compared to before surgery!). Don't really have any advise for ya tho...... maybe others might....

Deanna I'm so glad you were brave enough to post this - I've been wondering if I was the only one!! But didn't have to courage to ask. My sex drive has been decreasing as my weight has decreased. At first I thought it was my body getting over the operation and that when I lost weight and had more energy generally it would return with avengence. but it seems to be getting less the more weight I loose. I'm tired too and by the time evening comes am ready for as much sleep as I can get. Some days I'm so tired I go to bed stright after my 6 year old does at 7pm and I sleep right through til the morning. OK as we are being honest and embarrassed - does anyone have problems with intimate natural lubrication (if you know what I mean!)? This has really changed for me since WLS.

Lubrication has been an issue but try using Kyjell it seems to work. If that doesn't help speak to your doctor I am sure there is something that can be done. Or maybe a little extra attention from your husband might help too.

Oh thank goodness! I thought I was going to be the only one that this is happening to! Ruth, just like you I am finding less desire with the more weight I lose. I wonder why? I thought it would get better as I got my self confident! I could go to sleep at the same time as my kids and wake up late every morning. I don't know why I'm so tired! I had my blood work done and it was fine. So I don't know what my problem is! I'm just so thankful I'm not the only one going through this! Deanna

I know what you are feeling but for some reason it is getting better. For the first 5 months after surgery I really wasn't that interested in sex at all. Now I am every once in awhile and I am married to a man that wants it in the morning and 2 to 3 times at night He thought I just didn't want him and it wasn't that I was just so sleepy. What I suggest is maybe take a nap if you can durring the day and maybe even plan an evening without the kids. Add a little baby oil and candlelight and let whatever happens happen. I had to plan for sex so I would be able to enjoy it I still don't want it all the time but a few time a week is good for me.

Funny that you post this today. I have had like a NEGATIVE sex drive lately. I avoid it like the plaugue. I also haven't been having my period. So because of the period thing I went to my OB last week and had my hormones checked. Yesterday I got the results and it turns out my pituitary gland is putting out too much of a hormone that causes me to not have a period and decreases my libido (among other things). I am going to see an endocronoligist. My OB things I may have a cyst or a tumor on my pituitary gland causing this. But if everyone else here is having the same issue maybe it is related to the WLS?? Anyone else not having their period during all of this??? Interesting. I have an MRI on Friday and see the endo doc next week. Perhaps you should go get your hormone levels checked too????

Oh yes, mine is kind of negative lately too! No drive at all! I'm soooooo glad I'm not alone! My periods are okay, for the first time in my life! Before I lost weight, I never got them. What kind of hormone levels do they check? I have an appointment with my surgeon next week so I guess I need to quit being so shy and just ask him! Ugh, I dread having to bring it up! How embarrassing! But I guess it wouldn't hurt to get those hormones checked. Let me know how your MRI goes, Amy. Good luck! Deanna

Hi Amy my friend has had the same problem that you are being investigated for - I can't remember if it was a tumor or cyst right now though. If you want to chat to someone who has been there, I can give you her e-mail address? I know she won't mind at all. Ruth
