Flabby Skin

Is there any chance that this will go away on it's own? I'm so frustrated with my arms and thighs I don't know what to do. I really don't have 30k right now to spend on plastics and I'm wondering if because we're only 7 months out that it could possibly still go back some? As you all know I work out ridiculous amounts. My arm muscles are large but when I'm not "flexing" it looks nasty with the loose skin. UGH!

oh AMEN sister in a big wind i bet i could use the arm flab to get somewhere! My belly looks like a "kangaroo pouch" says my daughter who at 8 is too young to kill for that comment. My hooters are horrifying and wihtout a bra i could tuck them into the waistband of my undies! I'ts really disturbing and i can't get plastics until i'm at least 12-18 months out. ANDI

My surgeon's office recommends waiting at least 1 year after reaching goal to have plastics. They say that it can take the body that long to catch up with our drastic/fast weightloss.

As we all get closer to goal i think this is going to be one of our major issues...it is for me. I don't know whether or not it will get better...I can only assume that the more muscle we build then it will replace some of the extra room. I too work out a ridiculous amount. 4-5days a week with a personal trainer and they assure me that it will get firmer, so I trust they know what they are talking about. I recently saw a patient that was a few years out, totally thin but she had some extra skin on her belly. It did not hang but was just kinda gathered there. You could tell she did not have any extra body fat. So I kinda figure once we are at goal with weight and maybe more importantly our body fat percentage is where it should be then we will know....make sense? As far as the chest...no hope of those rising on their own I am afraid. Although I don't think it is very difficult to get a "reduction" for medical reasons. I went to my primary and she refered me right away...very little effort on my part. (lucky me!)

mine has gotten much more obscene in the last 8 weeks, but my surgeon says that there is no way in hades that a PS will touch me before 18 months post op, and preferably 24 months post op to ensure that too much skin has not removed. so I have just learned that I will dress to hide it and hope that most will evaporate during the next 17 months. in the mean time, I just cover it all up and forget about it.thank goodness it is sweater season. as for me, it is good to know that those that are exercising like crazy people are dealing with the same issues, I do not feel nearly as bad knowing that by not exercising, I am not doing myself a disservice. I hate exercising. currently, I am finding the more horrendous flaps are the back of my thighs, the inside saddles of my thighs, the backs of my upper arms and my belly and boobs. I got size 6 one piece swimsuit and I still use a cover up because I am not comfortable with my body

Hi Megan! Maybe there is still hope. I've noticed that my body has done some reassortment lately. No weight gain, but some has shifted from my upper arms & waist to my little thighs & chest (Thank you God!). I've heard that this reassortment keeps happening for several months. Maybe the skin will shrink up too. Let's cross our fingers! Hugs, Darlene

My pcp says when I reach my goal she will submit for ps. I will probably reach that goal in the next couple of months so it will be within a year. I dont know about other docs and how they feel about the ps. I hope it will be approved. Because I have psoriasis I know she is gonna push for it sooner rather than later. I guess I will just have to wait and see.

wear it as a badge of honor! someday if i can afford it i'll have plastics, but for now I have to look at the extra skin and say, "Joe, you have accomplished an amazing thing. Just relax and enjoy it."

Jo I love your post. It is full of wisdom. Here we all are worrying about flabby skin and stuff, and you have hit the nail on the head. Come on - lets wear our flab like a badge of honour to all our hard work and as a reminder of where we've come from and how far we've come. We can deal with it at a later date, but for now, let's lift our heads high, let our skin flap and walk with pride (even if we do lift into the air when the wind blows!!! )
