Back around June time I came off all my diabetic meds as they were causing me to have very low blood sugars and feeling rough. Since then my sugars have been fine, until this evening. I was feeling rough and shaky so took my sugars and they were very low. So even though I wasn't planning on eating tonight, as I had a main meal at lunch time, I ate to brign my sugars back up. So now I'm dumping How do others cope with this? I know Deanna has mentioned that she has low sugars. Sorry, just feeling sorry for myself

Hi Ruth Your not alone. I have low blood sugar. I need to eat a certain amount of carbs to keep from "bottoming out"I eat nuts and beans to help. I have very low blood pressure and will literally stop breathing unless I'm careful. (the low sugar triggers my blood pressure). I also drink some OJ (not much or often) but sip a bit to help as well as fruit. It does help. I hope you feel better... I have the flu this week so I'm right there with ya in spirit. Jean

so sorry. you may have to find a 'balance' between pure protein and pure sugar that will give you 'just enough' to raise your sugars without sending your over into dumping land. also it could be now that you will have 6 small meals instead of three to keep your levels 'level'.

Hi Ruth! I am right there with ya babe!!! I've been off all my diabetic meds since right after surgery and I get low blood sugar levels. It happens quite a lot for me ... I literally have to eat something every 3 to 4 hours or I bottom out. And if I go to the gym, I have to come home and eat because they get LOW! I usually eat a couple whole wheat Ritz crackers with some peanut butter. My nutritionist said to eat a carb with a protein (instead of just drinking juice) to keep from having your blood sugar level spike and then come down. It seems to work for me! I also eat smaller meals throughout the day instead of just 3 meals. Deanna

Thanks Deanna Good info re having a carb with protein. I'm gonna have to start having more smaller meals throughout the day too to stop the sugars spiking. Thanks everyone else for your advice too and for listening when I was feeling sorry for myself!
