Thanksgiving Strategies

Hello One and All! What are you guys going to do for Thanksgiving? There are going to be tempting foods on the table how are you going to avoid them or indulge modestly? Do you have a plan for the day or are you going to just wing it and hope for the best? I'll post my plan below: Breakfast: sensible, probably some hard boiled egg whites w/salsa or poached eggs Snack: carrot sticks and some low fat ranch Lunch: roasted veggies and fresh mozzarella cheese grilled like a panini with no bread Snack: Protein Drink Dinner: turkey, if there's any room i'll go to veggies then last i'm going to get a potato, preferably sweet if my sister in law has them. Let's face a few facts, most of us have had Thanksgiving dinner for a number of years, the meal is not new and the foods are repetitive. If you try serving a new dish on Thanksgiving my family may very well have a stroke. I've eaten this meal before, I know what each dish tastes like and losing weight is more important to me then trying the stuffing! Best wishes for a safe and healthy holiday season to you all, ANDI

I plan to drink my milk before breakfast just like always. Then I'll probably have an egg and some bacon. We'll Thanksgiving dinner at my grandmother's house about 1:00. I'll eat turkey first...then a bite of this and that if there is room. This is a lifestyle and 1 bite here and there on thanksgiving and christmas will not kill me. I do plan to STAY AWAY from the desserts though (I do not want to be miserable when i should be spending time with my family).

I'm so proud of you, you've got an awesome plan! I'm going to bring a sugar free dessert so my mother in law and i can indulge should we feel like it. I am having the Anti'thanksgiving dinner on Saturday. I'm making ham, lasagna, a poached salmon with dill sauce and everything else you might have side dish wise at Thanksgiving BUT we're having sugar free desserts and an ice cream bar so it should be a tough day for me eating wise but i'll be at the gym and maybe that will make up for it. I am going to have a protein shake in the morning and probably have my bran cereal around 11:00 or so. Then head over to MIL. This is my first year at her house - normally we do Thanksgiving with my family and it would be a LOT easier to help prepare stuff in a healthier way - at least some things. But my family is all spread out this year so for the first time we aren't doing Turkey day (NEXT YEAR!). So - I am stuck going to MIL where GLUTANY reigns supreme. Not one thing will be made without vats of butter and sugar. I can feel my arteries closing up just thinking about it. I will have some turkey. And like everyone else - a bite of this or that. I am bringing a couple of sugar free desserts since hubby and I are both post-ops and MIL, FIL & gramp are all insulin deperndant type 2 diabetes (not that you would know it from their eating habits). So then I can indulge in a peice of something for dessert that I KNOW what I am putting into my mouth!! Then I'll be planning to make an exit as soon as possible as my sis and mom are coming to my house for the evening to start plotting our Friday morning shopping madness (my fav day of the year!)

good for you Amy. You seem to have the whole Thanksgiving thing worked out. When you have a plan it's easier to make informed choices. I think that's what this holiday season is going to be all about, no more mindless eating just informed choices. Hugs, ANDI

I LOVE turkey. My plan is as much turkey as I can eat to keep me full. I am in charge of making the pies and I am going to make one pumpkin pie sugar free so that I can have one later in the day. I have heard it doesn't taste any different and they have sugar free redi whip now too!

good for you Rach as long as you have a plan in place your'e going to do fine. I think one of my biggest problems with the holiday's is the mindless eating that goes on. I used to park myself in front of the food and that was it for me. I'm going to my sister in laws and i plan to bring my running sneakers and a good book, if i need a break i'm going to excuse myself and go read or go out and get some fresh air and exercise. Be Well, ANDI

I will have my protein shake in the morning and then probably some buffalo chicken soup for lunch. Dinner at my sisters will not be til around 5 so I will eat turkey and a bite of this and a bite of that. I am making the sweet potatoes and using splenda and maple flavoring to make them. I will make a small pan for my father who is diabetic and myself with no marshmallows and a big pan with them for the rest of the family. Also going to make up a SF sweet potato pie and bring along some SF coolwhip. YUM YUM. Kel
