Just wanna compare notes with you..........
I had my surgery 5/23/2006 and have lost over 70 lbs. I started my journey at 262 and am approx. 190. I feel my weight loss is really slowing up. I also feel like I shouldnt be able to eat what I am eating, like for example, lunch I had 1 toasted slice wheat bread with 2 pieces turkey, 1 swiss cheese, and 2 heaping tablespoons cold slaw w/o mayo. It seem like so much for someone who had bypass. What do you think?
How many calories are you all eating?
I havn't been to doc in 6 weeks (my appt is this Thurs), but I get on the scale at the gym and it reads only 9 lbs since my last appt 6 weeks ago. Its coming off slow and I'm afraid it will stop working and I will fail at this also!
How much on average are you losing monthly! I know everyones different and at different weights, but any thoughts are appreciated!
My hair is falling out and I can see my scalp on sides if I put into ponytail! When will and does it stop!
Hugs,
Lisa
preface to say: YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY
that being said. I had surgery 1 week after you did. I started out 247.5, 15 lbs less.
I was much better about the Lean Meats and Leafy Green Vegetables until about 3 weeks ago, when I GAVE UP. and went back to my old diet. up until that point, I was loosing 3.6 lbs a week average for the previous 4 months.
as soon as I started back in on the carbs, I essentially started a tremendous slow down. I went from 3.6 lbs a week to 1.6 lbs a week. it is my own fault, I told the doctor I could only hold to that diet for a short period of time, and I was really surprized that I did as well as I did as long as I did. I usually loose interested in a diet after about 90 days. and then I am back to carbs.
as for volume, I have really tried hard not to stretch my pouch. I know that carbonated drinks do not stretch, just volume of solid food, and I have tried to keep it to less than 1/2 cup at any one sitting. I did not snack up until about 3 weeks ago, now that the carb monster is kicking my butt, I am eating every 3 hours instead of every 6. once again, self sabotage. I know what I need to do, I just do not wanna.
if I were to get back on track, eat just LEAN MEATS and LEAFY GREEN VEGETABLES. I am sure after 2 weeks, I would start loosing again.
as for the hair, I am sure everyone is different, but mine is still falling out at the same holy crap pace it was at 3 months postop. just sucks.
as far as fail. hello. 70 lbs is not a failure by any sense of the word. I sat at the dinner table today, and we were discussing the amount of food and quality that I am eating now. I am not dumping on anything anymore. ;-( and today I devoured nearly an entire small wendy's chili before realizing that I didnt stop at the 1/2 mark. that was a freak moment. I usually stop. today I didnt until it was 3/4 gone. dinner was 1/2 a slice of pizza. which is a big change from the 3 that I would eat 6 months ago. so I am down 105 lbs and I am in a size medium. I am happy. I just have to realize what my limits are now rather than have my pouch tell me.
Hi Lisa! I want you to take the word ONLY out of your vocabulary please! I'm down 55 pounds and i'd love to be down 70 by now! My surgeon told me that after the 5-6 month mark it's not uncommon for someone like me (a lightweight) to lose between 4-6 pounds per month and work hard to do it. Keep your chin up and as long as the scale is going down, don't be alarmed, it's when it stops that y ou are allowed to panic NOT BEFORE. Hugs, ANDI
ps. are you going to the NY holiday party?
I started at 328 the day of surgery and I'm currently down 89 pounds since May 23 (same day as you) I think 70 pounds is great for starting at 262. My surgeon's food plan doesn't "allow" carbs (other than milk and fruits****il 75% of excess weight is gone. However, I have slippd into eating a couple of crackers with my cheese because it just goes down so much better.
My hair is falling out also and as soon as I reach 100 pounds gone I am getting it cut to try to help camouflage the hair loss.
I lost 26 pounds the first month. I'm averaging about 13 pounds per month since.
Hang in there!!!!

Hi,
I had my surgery on 5/10/06 and am down 66 pounds and you are sooo lucky to be under the 200 mark!! I started out at 269 and it has been so hard trying to get under that mark!I have 3 pounds to go and it just won't go!!!!
I can eat anything now and sometimes I just don't feel full,I think allot of it is head hunger.. I find myself falling back into my bad habits again of munching when bored! Yesterday I ate a whole grilled cheese sandwich and a whole hamburg on a bun! I haven't done that for 6 months! Its really starting to scare me! I just am thankful for the weight I have lost and feel so much better.
They said it takes 1 year to 18 months to hit your goal,so I just hope I can do it...and lose those extra 69 pounds!!!!! I also need to throw away my scales,I must weigh myself 3 times a day or more...always afraid of gaining a pound!!!!
As far as your hair loss,it does quit, mine finally did!!
I started at 264 and had my surgery on May 8th. I am down to 166... two pounds from the 100 pound loss. I do not stray from my diet, but have to admit, I am not hungry and I'm pretty bored with food. I have to remind myself to eat and get the protein in I need. I havent loss a pound this week so I am dying to finally say i have lost 100 pounds, but I know this will come in time.
I am loosing hair right now and just started using Nixion to try and get some growth back. I cant really see my scal but it does worry me that soon I will be able to cause its falling out pretty good right now
I am 31 pounds off what is considered my ideal weight range and my doctor says that I am motivated and should get to 150 before I really start to struggle with loosing. With that said, when are these last two pounds coming off so i can join the club of 100 pound loosers..lol.. and grrr at the same time..
Good luck all. It all happens differently. My friend had her surgery 6 months before me and she is still at 40 pounds to go to get to her ideal weight loss and I passed her on clothing size. But remember, you are better off than you were before and in a couple years, the struggles we are having now will be only a distant memory and we will think back and say.. was I really over weight and look at me now.
I am loosing an average of 4lbs a month now. Slow, but going in the right direction, which it wan't before WLS.
Go and pick up something that weighs 9lbs and you will see how heavy it is. When we look at numbers on a scale we forget actually how heavy that 9lbs really is. You'll be surprised. 9lbs weighs the same as a human head and a guinea pig combined so you have 'lost your head'
70lbs is the same as an irish setter! Has anyone lost a dog hee hee.
Stay positive, keep following the rules you were initially given and you'll do fine. Don't push the limits to 'see' what your pouch is capable of. I know many of us are afraid of failing, like we have on every other diet, but this is different. We are already winning the battle. Keep posting on here and we'll all get help each other to get there in the end even if some of us get there later than others - we are just enjoying the journey.
My surgery was 5/2 and I am down 66 pounds from 213 to 147. The last few weeks (six) my weight loss has been 1.5 pounds, I have also noticed I am eating more and sometimes not the best choices, I have once again completly cut out my carbs to see if this will help although I don't eat many to begin with. I think it may be (at last for me) that I am getting closer to my goal weight of 130(mine)135(dr.) it is discouraging but then I say hey you went from a size 18 to a size 8 in six months you're doing great.
