Coming Out Of The Closet

Well - I guess it's finally time for me to stop lurking around here. I have been for about 6 months now I guess...lol. You can see I've been posting a lot the last few days and think I'm here to stay...like it or not...*snicker* The real reason I never posted much is because I thought my computer at work had a firewall that blocked me from posting...it does on the main message board. So I just read all day and keep to myself. Now today I tried posting on here from work and lo and behold....I can. Now I'll be stalking the May board even more. Thought I would give a mini-bio to catch you all up to speed on my journey so far. I had surgery May 3rd. I went through Aetna and was on a pre-op program for about 3 months and got approved relatively quickly. My husband had open RNY 4 years before and had lost 200 lbs. I decided to wait until I had children to do it. After having one child I decided I couldn't wait any longer. So I am sorta taking a break in my child bearing years for the surgery. So yes - I am married and I have one daughter who is 2 - my Katie girl. I am 26 years old and live in the burbs of Chicago. I want to have at least one more child and hopefully will start trying for that next summer.....if I've reached goal. Can't even imagine being pregnant and not obese!!! My starting weight was 322 and I currently weigh 232 - so far I have lost 90 lbs. My goal weight is 178 (I am 5'11") You'll notice I eat a lot more then a lot of you...one of other reasons I have shy'd away from posting. My nut recommended a 1100 cal day diet at my 3 mo appointment and I have no problems getting there. I am a religious fitdayer and I aim for 1000-1200 cals everyday and usually have to limit my nightly snack to stay within that. I also get at least 60 gr of protein everyday without shakes no prob. I LOOOOVE to cook and have really learned how to make a lot of healthy changes in my cooking for my family to help my evening meals fit into my plan. I did go off track a few weeks ago and had some serious snacking - overeating and my cals for out of control. So for a few weeks now I am back on a semi-liquid diet to whip my a$$ back in shape. I am doing a shake for breakfast and in the evening and then bran cereal for lunch (I need the fiber...if you know what I mean) and dinner with my family. Its getting me around 900 cals a day and 100G of protein and I feel AWESOME!!! I'll pry keep this up a few more weeks until I feel my head is totally back in the game and then go back to my 1000-1200 diet. Well - I'll stop babbling....thanks for reasing my book...I look forward to sharing more now that I know I can post!

Welcome to May land where we all are going through the same darn things just one or two days apart Don't worry about your diet, what your nutritionist says is what goes. That's the end of that! Don't be afraid to post some of your fav. recipies. I love to cook too! Rachael

Thanks for the welcome Rachael. I will definetely post some recipes. I LOVE LOVE LOVE cooking. I have modified a lot of my favs to be WLS friendly. I cook almost every night of the week!! I'm a huge crockpot cooker - especially this time of the year. Keep your eyes peeled. Next week I'll stash a few of my recipe cards in my purse and post them for you. I'm making crockpot chili tomorrow....my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I love cooking so much - and reading cooking magazines (LOVE Light N Fit) - and watching the food network. My husband calls it "food porn" LOL. I'm a food porn addict I guess. That's how I get my fix since I can't eat as much of it....I just think about it and look at it all day. Thanks again for the nice welcome!

Welcome! I'm mainly a lurker, but guess i've posted enough to be able to say welcome! I read somewhere that food network is pudge porn, i thought that was hilarious! i love the food network! pudge porn, hehehehhehe. also, my dr wants me eating 1200 calories by 6 months. his point of view is that this needs to be a way of life and that we must not feel deprived or starved. i try to get in on average 1000 a day, sometimes it's hard for me, but i usually do. i stay away from sweets, get my protein in from food, try to eat fresh veggies and fruit and limit my carbs. and like you, i eat home cooked meals most of the time. my weight loss, though slower than some, seems to be on track according to the weight loss planner on this website, actually i'm a little faster than the planner. i appreciate my dr's point of view most of the time, i just get envious sometimes when is see people who have lost so much more than i have. i'm hoping that slow and steady wins the race. right now i feel that i could live the rest of my life eating like i am. i feel satisfied and eat what i want. Thanks for the welcome Deb!! It's nice to read someone else who's Dr tells them about the same thing. I agree with what your Dr says. I want this to feel like a sustainable life style for me. Once I get to maintenance he says I will need to be at 1500-1600 cals...depending on how metabolism holds up. I have all my faith in him and so far my weight loss has been on track and I am so happy. Your loss so far is amazing....you are getting seriously close to goal!!

Welcome Amy!!! I'm so glad you finally posted! Do NOT be concerned about your calorie requirements. My Dietician wants me to eat 1000-1200 too. And it sound like you are very successful so don't ever feel awkward about posting ... it's obviously working for ya! We all have different requirements based on our doctors or nutritionists so no one will look down on you because you are following their guidelines! I LOVE to cook too! I hope you do bring in some crock pot recipes to share because I LOVE cooking in the crock pot and would love some new recipes! Have you tried those new crock pot liners? They are AWESOME! Anyway, welcome aboard ... it's wonderful to have you! Deanna
