Butterflys

We are all butterflys, slowly emerging from our crysilis cacoons. Did you know that the butterfly has to struggle to emerge, squeezing it's body through the small opening to prepare it for flying. If the butterfly is helped at this point, if the emergence is 'easy' it will not strengthen it's wings and be able to eventually fly. Even once the butterfly has emerged, ti then needs to rest for several hours before it can eventually take off. I love this analogy. Even though WLS has certainly made this journey possible for me, it is still a struggle at times. I need to remember that here is a reason for times of struggle - it will all be worth it in the end. I need to look for the lessons and opportunities to strenthen my 'wings' and wait for the day I can fly as a beautiful butterfly. I also need to remember that at times my body needs to rest. There are loads more analogies to be drawn from the picture of a fat person loosing weight compared to a butterfly emerging from it's cacoon.... Thanks for listening to my musing... Ruth

I've been collecting butterflies since right after surgery because I feel like this is such a HUGE metamorphosis for me (body and mind). My background for my profile was Butterflies but i'm having a hard time getting one to load in the new format.

Ruth, that is so cool! I love that analogy! I love butterflies! I have a butterfly tattoo on my ankle and I love it! And when I lost my 100 pounds, I bought myself a pair of small gold butterfly earrings to signify my change! Maybe we should all get butterfly tattoos once we reach our goal weights! LOL! Deanna

Oo oo oo...I'm all excited now. I've always wanted a tatoo but didn't know what to get. And I also wanted to celebrate loosing 100lbs...maybe I can convince Ron (DH) that he would liek a butterfly tatoo - (he's not keen on tatoos). I am definitely going to take on the butterfly theme like some of you have - I hadn't thought of that at all. Something to remind me and keep me going when I'm feeling low. Thanks guys Ruth

I think that is beautiful and so fitting for us and our journey. I went to a butterfly garden with my husband last month and bought a few coffee mugs a shirt and a pin with butterflies on it to remind me of my own transformation . They help when I want things to hurry and wonder about the struggle.
