Hair Loss slowing down????
I almost hate to mention this because I'm afraid it may just be wishful thinking. It seems my hair loss has slowed down somewhat. At 2 months, I was losing handfuls of hair when I shampooed. I've noticed it's not quite as bad now...still some loss, but not as frightening!!
Has anyone else noticed this??
Exactly the same for me.
I would have thick strands (alot of hair) all laced in my fingers (while shampooing), now I can actually count them!!
Also, I use a special mesh drain screen, and before I would have to clean it just to get the water to drain at the end of my shower and there would be clumps of more hair floating in the standing water, now it drains without cleaning the screen. Then when I clean the screen there doesn't SEEM to be as big a clump of hair. I hope this means my hair will start growing back too...I have been so worried I was going to be bald!!
This is one of the things I absolutely LOVE about our message board - we all seem to be going through so much around the same time, and it's great that we can share, compare and encourage. I also have noticed over the past few days that it SEEMS the hair in my comb is less in the mornings when I shower. I was thinking it was psychological and I was making it up because I've been so paranoid about my hair loss the past few weeks, but after reading your posts I'm thinking it might be true - I hope so!!! I am so ready for it to slow down, stop and for some of my hair to grow back. I'm also kind of worried because this Saturday I go to my hairdresser to get my highlights in preparation for my wedding day. I have been hoping it doesn't damage my already thinning hair. I've never had problems with highlights before, but I just don't know my hair will react to things post op.....
Alisa,
I don't think the highlighting will damage your hair (anymore that normal). Before WLS I got my hair colored every 5-6 weeks (to cover the gray roots) because it grew so fast. I would get my hair highlighted about 2X/year. I had my hair colored and highlighted at 6 weeks post-op and didn't notice any adverse reaction. THEN at 2 months I started noticing the hair loss AND my hair just stopped growing( I guess this makes sense)!! So I called my hair dresser, told her I didn't have too much of a gray root problem and because I was so freaked out by the hair loss, told her I was going to cancel my regular appt. and skip to the next 6 weeks. When I went in to have my usual color job, she told me that she didn't expect it to damage my hair or increase hair loss and she was right. I didn't notice any add'l loss.
Ivette...you and Kat are so lucky to have thick hair!! I have fine hair, but have been told I have alot of it!! That must be the case, because when I was losing handfuls, I just didn't see how I could keep losing that much hair and not be bald the next morning. Everyone tells me they can't tell I've lost any hair, but I can. I have to use a little clippie thing when I wear my hair up, the bigger one I used to use just hangs there...it's pathetic!!
