I've read in many places that often times you confuse hunger with thirst. How can you tell the difference?

Hey Megan, I'm not really sure but that's what I think is happening to me this past week. I no I"m not drinking enough and I feel like I'm replacing my liquids with food. I was pmsing all week being as though this is my first period since surgery. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Let me know if you find out any info. Tierra

Hey girl. I've heard that dehydration and extreme thirst masks itself as hunger. I was told to try to drink a glass of water first and if you're still hungry, then you're just hungry. Hope that helps!

I can tell because if it has been 5 hours since my last meal, it is hunger, if it has been 2 hours, it is thirst Kat [Photographer & Mom of 5] [[ Some people are like slinkies, they don't really have a purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.]] 275/247/185/150 start/surgery/today/goal

For me it's a mind thing... I think I'm hungry so eat. Before WLS I'd forgotton what it really felt like to be hungry, so any feelings I took to be hunger. I'm trying to re-educate myself that not ALL my inside and head feelings are hunger and to try other things first! I think this is why I want to keep snacking. Anyone got any good ideas for healthy snacking (as opposed to grazing****ep away from sweet snacks but now have such a fancy for chips it's crazy. I've had so many cheese strings I'm sick of them now!! Ruth

Hey there Megan - I use the 4-5 hour rule - if its been 4-5 hours since I've eaten, I assume its hunger. Otherwise, I drink about 16oz of water and if I'm still hungry afterwards, then I assume its hunger. Take care, Heather
