Not Getting Fluids

it is all my fault. if I could just DO IT. I would not have to deal with it. I have a bottle in each room, I have two in my car, and a case in the trunk, it is on my mind a lot of the day. I am sipping now, but and here is the big BUTT I am just not getting it done. each day is worse than the day before. I had two bottles of water with me on friday, and by the end of the day, I still had not drank the last one, so that is a net gain of about 24 oz total. I know that 24 oz is not enough. my kidneys definately tell me it is not enough. but dawg gone it, I just can't seem to get it in. today I made a 1/2 gal of herbal tea and I am on my second cup, but still... I just can not get it down. and here it is almost 6 pm. that means that I have gotten in 16 oz total before dinner. this is just so hard. knowing what I need to do, not having a 'real' reason or excuse, it just takes FOREVER to get it in one sip at a time. I have tried hot and cold (hot goes faster) and I have tried sweetened and not sweetened (sweetened goes faster) and I have tried carbonated and non carbonated (non carbonated goes faster) I have tried caffinated and non caffinated (non-caffinated is better) I swear, of all the things to obsess over. fluids is just a PITA. I know what you mean. I don't get in all my fluids either, and when I do think of it, it is usually meal times when I don't want to drink either! It makes me dump if I drink while eating. At least you've put all the strategys in place - bottles all over. Do you find it difficult to drink or just forget to drink. By the way - I LOVE your new photo - you look great. So much younger. it is the forgetting... I swear I have alzhimers. hehehe here it is 9:25 am and I have not done either, eat or drink. I have to go down now, and do both. but of course, the question is, do I eat to live or do i drink to live first, knowing that I need both and can not do both. I will probably drink a cup with my vitamins / meds and then make something by the time i have made something, it will have been enough time since I drank that I will be able to keep it down that is just so frustrating..

Hi Katherine. I also take a bottle with me at all times but now found that I can drink a lot more if I drin****il I am full instead of tiny sipping all day. I also try and drink much of it early so that I am not "stuck" with tons of water left in the evening. Good luck--Suzette

I feel your pain! I am the same way! I can barely get 4 glasses in a day! I know I need more, but I can not get it down!

Kat, you are SO not alone. I have the same battle as you do. I know I need to be drinking more fluids - I'd probably be losing at a much faster rate, but I just cannot get it all in. I think it's a combination of I get so busy I forget until towards the end of the day when there's no way I can get in all I need, and I just have never been a "drinker," and it's hard for me to drink throughout the day, if it's not a Diet Coke, lol. As a matter of fact, other than my morning cup of Iced Latte (which doesn't count since it's caffeinated), I hadn't had anything to drin****il I read your posting. I just went and grabbed a diluted Vitamin Water (20 ozs.), and am sipping as I post. I'm hoping to get it down by noon. Then get in another one by 6 p.m., and another glass of something before I go to bed. I can count on one hand the number of times I've done this successfully since post-op, but I know I'll be in serious trouble if I don't. Maybe we should start a separate post every day, like we do with what we eat, for us all to report what/how much we've had in liquids??? Or at least make it a point to add it to our daily "What have you eaten" postings?? Hang in there, we can do it - we just have to set our minds to it, like we've done everything else having to do with our WLS. -Alisa
