Soda Question

Hi everyone. I'm just curious what your doctor has said about drinking soda. Mine pretty much said no soda ever again forever and ever. But I've heard other docs have said to wait 6 months or so and then it's fine. Just wanted to get some ideas b/c I really miss soda and if I can have a diet coke once in awhile, I would love too!!

Mine didn't really say anything about it. I kept away from any fizzy drinks for a few months because of everything I'd read about it, then tried very small sips. I used to live on diet pepsi and really missed it, however, when I tried it again I hated the taste. The artificial sugar had a really strong taste. I've tried other fizzy drinks and find the same thing - even if it's not a diet drink. The only fizzy drink I like now is Redbull, but don't drink much and only sip very slowly (a can will last several hours!). If your doc says stay away, you really should follow his/her advice. Your health is in their hands & it's not worth risking if you ask me (sorry to be a pooper).

mine said no, never, ever I had some early on, in July and it just didnt do a thing for me anymore, so after about 3 weeks, I gave it up on my own. I had a couple of sips this week from my daughter's and it was 'okay' like other things, you may find that it is all in your head now, not in your mouth. I can not seem to find anything right now that tastes good.

Danielle, Mine Dr said "NO SODA EVER AGAIN". I had my last coke in March 2006 the day I got my surgery date. Not had one since. Not that I haven't been tempted, but I would be so afraid it would make me sick plus it really is just empty calories & sodas were one of the things that helped me gain so much weight in the first place. I just really don't want to go there again. I have never liked diet soda's .So those are out of the question too. I'd have to say follow your Dr's orders! Don't sabatoge yourself!! ((((HUGS))))~Missy~

After reading everyone's posts here, I've decided my surgeon does not have as strict post-op requirements. He allows carbonated drinks (diet) 6 months post-op. I haven't tried any yet, since I was never a big coke drinker anyway. The only time I would drink them was when I went out and they were a mixer!! I read somewhere that the gas from the carbonation can stretch your pouch, but I don't know if I believe that or now. I would think it would pass through rather quickly, and you would also burp any excess.

Sorry to be the odd ball out...but my doctor said every once in a while soda is okay....i drink it from time to time.....but be careful if you drink right after you eat...it feels like your food is coming back in your throat....Everything in moderation. 351/259/190

I was told never to drink soda again, mainly because of the carbonation. I used to drink soda EVERY DAY many cans a day, which was obviously a weakness. But with water and 100% natural juices, I can live without soda for the rest of my life and I don't even miss it.
