B1 (Thiamine), B complex, B12??? Dangerous??
I read on the Main Board yesterday & again today about B1 (Thiamine) deficiency causing neurological problems with hands & feet & even someone had a stroke or a heart attack from it. A lady from my church was having the same problems post-op.
Is this true? Any nurses out there? Please HELP!!
I take sublingual B12 about 4 x's per week, multi-vit 2x's per day, calcium 2 x's per day (not with my multi), Iron once or twice per week, Biotin & Zinc for hair & nails.
Should I be taking a B complex (with B1 in it) in addition to my B12?
Thanks,
Darlene
Hi Darlene. My surgeon is now recommending that we all take a b complex along with all the other vitamins in order to get in the thiamine. It is apparently new information about how dangerous this deficiency can be. It's a lot of pills, isn't it? My doc said to go ahead and take the b complex but hold off on the additional b12 for now. I guess it all depends on your surgeon.

Hi Darlene. Thats interesting news about the B1 because I have noticed through Fitday.com that every day my levels of that vitamin are very low to almost nothing. Yet my other B vitamins are really high. These scores don't take into account the additional supplements I take (B12, iron, multi etc.)only food, so I wonder if I am overdosing on certain vitamins and not getting enough of others? I don't even know what foods contain B1 that I can add to my diet ? Let us know if you find any other information out. --Thanks, Suzette--
