Lowering Carbs to null?!

I'm so frustrated with my weight up and down as you guys already know. So I've decided this morning to cut out carbs as much as possible (can't eliminate them from my protien shake). I'm going to stay on this plan until my weight is moving again. I've been eating just as many carbs as protien grams some days and I have a feeling that's holding me back some. What are your thoughts? I also called my husband and told him to hide all three scales in the house from me until NEXT Tuesday. This is a HUGE step for me as I've weighed everyday 3-4-5-6-7x since surgery.

Megan... I think I am going to join you in this plan... being at a stall for 3 weeks and then gaining 3 lbs is driving me freakin insane!!!!!! I don't weigh everyday... usually only once or twice a week, so that I won't go crazy if the scale isn't moving... but come on now, I am at my wits end here. Plateau fairy, cut me some slack!

Renee, I'd love to have a partner in this. Someone to compare notes with. We're around the same weight range so it would be very interesting. Would you be interested in starting tomorrow?

My surgeon's plan is no carbs until 75% of excess weight is GONE! The only carbs I'm allowed are those in my milk and fruits and such. Good luck!

Hey Megan Please dont take this the wrong way... I think you need to chill-out. You've done sooooooo well. Look at what you've lost - your body just needs time to catch up. You push yourself so hard, cut yourself some slack, your weight will drop again eventually when it's ready. You know you aren't sabotaging your weight loss - you aren't packing in secret candy bars packed full of calories are you? I know you aren't - you are eating plenty of protein you drink all your water and you exercise. Lighten up on yourself and be kind to yourself. I care about you Megan and want the best for you so I hope you don't mind me saying this. Don't obsess about loosing weight and food - that's just as unhealthy (emotionally) as being obese. Dont' panic that you aren't meeting your goals, you will get there in the end, but isn't it better to get there whole and be able to not focus totally on food issues? (((((((((((((((Hugs to you))))))))))))

Ruth, what you've said is right on. At my "intervention" last week with my surgeon, nutrionalist and personal trainer they mentioned all of the same. That I'm too focused on numbers and need to do better.

Megan, I agree in theory with the other posts, but you see...I'm obsessed with goals too. Right now I'm obsessed with the damn weightloss planner on my surgeon's website. I have been totally freaking out that I was a couple of pounds behind my 4 month target weight (according to that weightloss planner), When I went in on Monday for my 4 month checkup, I mentioned the weightloss planner to my surgeon's nurse, and she rolled her eyes and essentially told me to chill out!! So you see, I can relate!! I think we need to give our bodies a break, because you know with the low calorie intake you are bound to begin losing again!! She also reminded me that I was only 4 months post-op and to relax. I'm trying very hard to take her advice to heart, but like you it's very difficult for me!! You have done so so well, and you're an exercise fiend, so you are doing everything right!!! You're an inspiration and example to the rest of us and we all feel your painful stall right now!!

Hi Megan! I'm so sorry that you're freaking out! Here are a couple other things to think about ... my dietician insists on having carbs in our diets ... especially with as much as you work out at the gym. You need that energy to fuel your body. Another thing, maybe you could try increasing your calories slightly for a week to see how that works. My dietician says that by increasing calories, sometimes that can trigger more weight loss. Anyway, I'm by no means a professional. I'm just going by what my dietician tells me! It seems to me that when you asked about carbs awhile back, MOST everyone here agreed that their dieticians all said to eat carbs. Have you talked to your dietician lately? I sure hope something works for you! I can imagine how frustrated you must be! Deanna
