I'm concerend that my surgeon hasn't taken post-op blood work since 4 weeks for me. I've been very ill since surgery (I've had strep 3x, pink eye 2x, and sinus infections every other damn week). I called today (sick again!) and asked to make an appointment. They were kind enough to give me an appointment tomorrow afternoon and I plan to address all of this with my surgeon then. Just curious when the last time all of you had post-op bloodwork done?!

2 months was my first. My potassium was a little low so I'm going back more bloodwork next week to see if that is back to normal. But my surgeon's office is usually 2 months (discussed at 3 month appt) and 5 months (discussed at 6 month appt) and 1 year. I hope that made sense lol Mandy

Megan, when I went to my 3 month check-up at my surgeon's office (the 3rd week in August), they did post-op blood work. I would be concerned too, and when you go tomorrow ask them what their normal procedure is with drawing post-op bloodwork. Because they need to be checking your levels pretty frequently the first year, I hear. As a matter of fact, I've been feeling kind of low in the energy department, and am planning to call his office tomorrow and make an appointment for another B-12 shot. I haven't had one since my 4-week follow-up appointment, but I'm thinking I might need one now. I'm sorry you've had such a rough time post-op. I hope they can take a look at you and give you something at the very least to help with the sinus infections. I have them occassionally and know what a pain they can be.

Hey Alisa, You're supposed to give yourself a B-12 shot once a month at minimum.

Even if you're taking the sublinqual B-12 liquid once a day? Although I haven't taken it for about 4 days now because my drugstore and the grocery store near me are both out right now. I'm considering just taking a B-12 shot (once a month, if you think that's how often I'm supposed to take it) instead of messing with the bi-lingual drops.

Oh my mistake. I misunderstood - I thought that you were taking the shot. I didn't realize that you were doing the bilingual. I take the shot - much easier for me to do once a month then have ANOTHER thing to remember everyday! LOL

No problem. I actually agree that the shots are much easier. So rather than continuing to look for the sublingual drops, I made an appointment to go tomorrow and get a shot, and then I'll just need to go every month to get another one. I like this better! Thanks for the suggestion, Megan.

Hey there Megan - My surgeon didn't do any follow up bloodwork on me, and won't until my 6 month visit. However, I've been meeting with my primary care physician and she ran some bloodwork (thyroid, B12, ferritin, etc) at 6 weeks out. I'm going to try to see her next week to do a repeat, becuase I've been feeling very tired lately. I hope you feel better soon! Take care, heather

I'm like Heather. My surgeon doesn't do any blood wor****il 1 year. If you're feeling tired, sick, etc., I'm supposed to go see my Primary Care Physician for blood work. So, I have no idea where my levels are at. But, I'm feeling good, so no worries thus far. ~kelle
