How many Calories in a day are you getting in?

I haven't been counting calories (which is probably why I'm a slow looser ) but I guess I average around 800 a day. I too find sometimes the more I eat the more I loose and vice versa. I have been making poor choices lately though so yesterday I decided to get back on track and listen to my body rather than eat more than it wants/needs. I just think that the portion sizes are way smaller than they used to be so I am going to go with the flow and as long as I keep loosing - all beit slowly, I'm happy. I stress too easily so am trying to 'chill' through this journey.

I take in about 1000 cals a day which is what my nut suggest, 800-1000 and I usually burn off 400-500 depending if i get to the gym or not, even on the days I go after work I burn 300 on the elliptical. I think 800-1000 is the norm and especially if you are actively exercising.

I am usually in the 800-1000 range if I add it up, although I have gone up to around 1200 a few times. Probably the least I might do these days is about 600. Just as a note, my pre-op diet called for 1500 calories a day.

Hi Megan! I keep track of my calories on www.sparkpeople.com ... it's free and easy, kind of like fitday. Anyway, I get anywhere between 500 and 850 calories per day ... depending on if it's a day where I can keep food down or not! But roughly I get about 800 calories per day. My Nutritionist says to aim for at least 800 calories and eventually work up to 1000 calories. So it sounds like most of us are on similar programs! Deanna

I feel so much better after reading all of your replies. I went to bed in tears last night because I had consumed so many calories and freaked out. I talked with my nutrionalist after I got to ATlanta this morning and she confirmed what all of you (most of you) have said that 800-1000 was right in line. I mentioned the diet you're on Katherine and she said that was absoltutely NOT okay for me. Thanks to everyone. Seriously!! YOu guys made me feel SO much better. megan

OK I'm adding to my previous post... how do you count your calorie intake so acurately? Take today, for lunch I had a 'small' bowl of chilli & rice that my hubby made. I have no idea where to begin counting on that one. I'm OK if it comes ready made so I can look on the can or packet but most of the time we cook our own stuff. Or how do you count if you have 3 chips, say, instead of 1/2 the packet (or the whole packet like I used to!). Do you count the chips in the whole bag and divide that way Ruth

I track everything on fitday.com ... I usually measure or count out most of everything I eat.

I am getting in 600 to 1000 cal and 2 weeks ago my surgeon said that was good. 3-4 times a day I burn about 400-450 cal when I walk my 3 miles. I was walking everyday (but not eating enough) but I got discouraged b/c my weight loss was slow but I am doing better - a lot better. So I am trying to work back up to walking 6 days a week . . and I am taking a snack or small meal with me when I run errands to keep from buying bad quick foods. I feel a lot better . . . I am meeting my minimal goals so I feel good about that. Thanks for the post Megan - great question. Phenom
