I was never a coffee drinker, and then about three years ago, I got hooked on cappichinos. I was certain that I would never get over not having caffiene, but so far I have not had but three cups of coffee in the last 3 months and I do not miss it. it just tears my tummy up. so I am now devouted herbal tea drinker.

Hi Darlene - I stopped drinking coffee before surgery because I was told to. I've been drinking decaf ever since. I was told to avoid caffeine becasue it stimulates appetite, is a diuretic, and causes vasoconstriction, which inhibits healing. The decaf has some caffeine in it, so I still get a little boost. Hope this helps! Heather

I also stopped drinking before surgery because I was told too and have not went back. I do have decaf once in awhile but mostly water or tea in the morning. I keep thinking I am going to have a cup of coffee but have not yet. I did order some the other morning when we were out for breakfast and had them put half decaf and half reg but then I rembered I could't drink and eat anyway so it just sat there. Just tried to enter a sad face but they usually never work for me) This is the hardest for me - not drinking when I eat. I always have drank ALOT of water when we went out and now!!! But I do drin**** tea, even regular not always decaf. Darlene N.

Hi Darlene - I totally understand what you mean about not drinking when you eat. I have found that I can drink BEFORE I eat, but I abstain from drinking until 1 hour AFTER I eat. Since my pouch empties of water pretty fast and hasn't seemed to impact how much I can eat after drinking, I think this is the best compromise I can live with. I put a mint or gum in my mouth as soon as I'm done eating, and that seems to help me wtih the 1 hour watiing period (as long as I don't swallow the gum!). Take care, Heather
