Drink answer for Rick
Hey Rick I read on your profile you were wondering why we have been advised not to drink with meals. I wondered this too, and have actually tried to drink with my meals but it makes me dump. I think what happens is that the fluid flushes the food out of the stomach into the intestine before it is digested. It also aids in overeating which also causes me to dump!
Needless to say, I avoid drinking while eating, other than a few sips if I'm thirsty.
Thanks Ruth!
That makes sense. I really need to stop drinking anything with meals. I've read some more things on the topic and have read quite a few times now that it does push the food through or at least makes it more mushy in the pouch so it will not keep you full nearly as long. One article I was reading suggested that you do drink with meals if you are past goal and still losing too much because it will make you hungry faster and allow you to eat more.
I appreciate the feedback!
Rick
Drink most of your fluids between meals. Drinking beverages with your meals may cause pain, nausea and vomiting as well as dumping syndrome. Also, too many liquids at mealtime may leave you feeling overly full and prevent you from eating enough nutrient-rich foods. Expect to drink about 6 to 8 cups of fluids a day to prevent dehydration.
