Have you been sick much since surgery?

As I posted in my last post (seems like I'm every other post on this board - come on ya'll!!) I'm feeling horrid today. I think i have strep, again. It seems as if for the past 5-6 weeks I've been in the doctors (my PCP) office every single week. I've had pink eye 2x, strep 1x (and possibly again today) and a sinus infection. I'm wondering if my immune system is run down from WLS. Thoughts?

Hi Megan! We had our surgeries one day apart (mine was 5/12). I have also experienced being "sicker" since after surgery. I'm not sure if it's because of the change in nutritional needs our bodies are experiencing, or just random luck (or bad luck, that is!). I've had more colds and sinus problems. I've also had issues with bad results from taking antibiotics - g.i./stomach problems and the like. I have no doubt that even after three months post-op our immune systems are still thinking WTF? I think the key is to be really good about taking our vitamins and supplements, and "listening" to our bodies when we start to feel like we're getting run down or dehydrated. From reading other posts over the months, I dont think this problem is all that uncommon and I think it gets better as long as we're good about keeping our body healthy. Hope you are otherwise doing well since your surgery! Take care, Cindy 262/198/145

I haven't experienced that (yet--knock wood). I hope your infections clear up soon! It does sound possible that the immune system could be a bit compromised since surgery. I've been feeling really run down and have been wondering the same thing. Good luck! Jami

Sure enough I went to the doctors yesterday and I'm down with strep again. This is the most miserable sick feeling I've felt in many years. I'm miserable..

Sounds to me like you started a new day care. Just kidding. I hope you are feeling better soon. I have had just the opposite experience, I haven't been sick once since surgery (knock on wood). I think taking the extra vitamins is helping with that.

I'm with you all on this - I keep getting bladder infections and other stuff - it feels like one thing after another. It must be because our bodies first were recovering from the operation and then too busy using up the fat stores. Here's hoping we all feel fighting fit soon

Maybe it's from all that exercise Wonder Woman! Your body may just be trying to get you to slow down one way or another.

since I was already high risk for infections (medication for rheumatoid arthritis) suppresses my immune system, I am psychotically careful. wash my hands a lot. I have not been sick for three years.
