Scared that our 6month window is almost 1/2 over

I'm freaking out guys.... I've had it drilled into my head from this board (main forum) and from my surgeon's office that the first 6 months is when you lose the majority of your weight. Well, I'll be 1/2 way there on the 11th of August and I'm only down 50lbs. I started at 272 and I'm at 220 today. There are weeks (like the past two before this) that I haven't lost a single lb. Then there are good weeks (like this one) that I'll lose 7ish. I'm so scared that our "honeymoon" is almost over. There really isn't anything I can do to "kick into gear" because I'm already working out ridiculous amounts and drinking 100oz + water a day. I just wish this weight would come off quicker. I know, I should be thankful for all that I have lost... just scared. Am I alone in this thinking?

I was told by my doctor that you have a window as long as you want. Yes I said as long as you want. All of the weight will come off you just have to keep working at it. As long as you are working out and getting in shape don't worry about it. The window of losing fast is usually 18 months. I would say you are off to a good start. Keep up the good work and drink tha****er everything will be fine. Lorraine

Hey Megan, First I wanted to say your pictures look wonderful, and I'm totally with you on this one. I'm down 51lbs and I feel like it should be way more. Everyone keeps telling me I'm doing great, but for me I feel like a turtle with this surgery. I'm greatfull for what I have lost but also scared that I'm not gonna make my goal. Ineed to loose about 120 more lbs for me to be comfortable. I have alot more to loose but I'm gonna try to be patient. Tierra Oh I haven't heard from you in awhile e-mail me when you can. See ya

Megan, I have heard the same thing.....when you get weighed at the doctor's office do they tell you how many pounds of muscle/water you gained or the pounds of fat lost? Those things will impact the number on the scale. For example if you are working out a lot and gain say 10 pounds of muscle/water and lose 10 fat pounds the scale may not show ANY change. I only lost 10 pounds month #2 but gained 6 pounds of muscle. At some point that darn scale will to you! Don't worry too much about the "6 month window" because if you are working out I think you'll continue to lose. Hang in there! Kathy RNY 5/5/06 350+/320/260/160

Megan, I'm going to agree with Lorraine here. I've heard from my doc and also from reading many, many, many profiles here on OH (I'm addicted!), that the "window" lasts anywhere from 12-24 months. It will slow down after 6 months and we will continue to have to work hard at it (probably even harder after that point), but it shouldn't stop as long as we continue to follow the "rules." Don't get discouraged! I know how you feel, cause I'm losing slower now, too. My 2 month surgiversary is coming up and I was hoping to be a bit farther down by now, but I have to keep remembering that my body just can't keep up doing what it did the first month--it's not healthy. Hang in there and know that you are doing everything you can to work your "tool" and it will continue to work for you long past that 6 month mark!!! JAMI

You are not alone Ms. Megan but i think you and the rest of us will be just fine. My surgeon said the window does not slam down but starts getting tougher to open but if you want to keep it open you sure can....nice way of saying work hard eat right don't lose focus! Be Well, ANDI ps. the new you is simply gorgeus

I'm with you. There is just something about that 3 month anniversary that is coming up that scares me a little. I want to be farther along with no more stalls. They are so frustrating. Darlene
