Am I using this WLS right?
I had WLS on 5/18/06...and am down 33.5lbs...does this seem like not very slow lost? I started at 210.5 surgery day...I don't know if I am doing this right...I get in my water and protein and vits...I do a lot of walking...so what's the problem...I don't know maybe I am right where I am supposed to be?? I don't eat bread or pasta...no fatty foods...no sugar...chicken, salad (with FF / low sugar dressing), simple stuff...protein shakes.
I am down from a size 18 / 2xl to a 14 / JR's XL. So this is good. I just feel like people that had the surgery right around mine have been loosing at a faster pace. I know I shouldn't compare, and I don't do it so I can be like every one else. It's just that I am new at this and I feel better when people describe similar experiences.
I haven't been weighing every day...more like every three days and usually loose about .5lbs. Well I should probably be working out harder. I need to step up my game on that. Maybe that would make the difference. Well if any of you can relate, I am stoked with my success at not eating crap and loosing the weight I've lost already...even though I have a ways to go. I know I am loosing and that this is working I thought that I may have lost like 50lbs by now...but that's what happens when you place expectations!
Remember, someone who starts out heavier will lose more, faster. It takes a lot more energy to haul around a 350-pound person than a 210-lb one. They are burning more calories than you are, just by breathing! If your doctor tells you he's/she's disappointed in your weight loss, then I'd pay attention. But it sounds to me like you're doing all the right things. Hang in there!
I think you are doing JUST GREAT. I had WLS on 5/15 and have only lost 45 lbs but I started 50 lbs heavier than you. As long as you are getting your protein in, your water and your vitamins - GREAT JOB!!!!
I guess I look at it that I HAVE NEVER LOST THIS MUCH WEIGHT in 10 weeks before so something must be going right. But I do know what you mean when you say everybody else seems to be losing it faster.
WE WILL MAKE IT
Hey Chandi -
I think 33 pounds is fantastic, especially given how light you were when you started! The pounds come off more slowly the lighter you are. My doctor said to ideally lose about 2-3 pounds per week, so according to her, you should have lost about 24-27 pounds...so you've beaten that rate!
One thing that I've seen on other posts is that people sign their name with their highest, pre-op, current, and goal weight. Its helpful to see because it helps put others' weight losses into context. I'm going to start doing that!
Hang in there!

I started much heavier then you at 272 and I'm only down 50lbs. I work out 2-3 hours a day - 6 days a week and have a personal trainer. I'm THRILLED with my weight loss - but feel the same as you when I read other posters that have lost so much more then me already.
There are weeks that I'll lose 7lbs and there are weeks that I don't lose anything. I have to weigh myself everyday - multiple times a day. I wish I didn't. I just can't stop. I'm addicted to the scale.
That being said I've never lost this much weight in such a short period of time before so I would do the surgery over and over again ... just wish that I'd lose more!!
It really scares me that our 6 month window is almost 1/2 over.
I asked my surgeon's assistant the very same thing and she said that everyone is different . . as long as you are losing you are going well. It doesn't seem like the scale is moving for me (33lbs down as of last week) but I am moving down in clothes sizes. so I must be doing something right.
Take care and keep up the good work

Hey Chandi,
I think you are doing great! At my surgeon's office you'd be considered a "lightweight" which hopefully means no saggy skin later on! I was told that average loss each month postop is 8 to 12 pounds, see what your doc thinks.
Since I have gotten diligent about my workouts the scale seems to be moving steadily. Right now we could lose without doing anything but exercise is more and more crucial as we get further out and can eat more calories. I still have 100 pounds more to go.....I'm anxiously waiting for your preop weight! Any preconceived expectations toss 'em!
I am just trying to get through each day trying to get in the water, protein and vitamins as well as the exercise. Can you believe I actually look forward to the gym after work? Not 12 weeks ago!
Know we're all right here with you!

I know, this is the most weight ive ever lost too...so that's nothing to turn my nose up. I went and got 2 new workout tapes to do at home...billy blank's Bootcamp...and a Crunch dance workout...did it last night was fun. I know I'll get there but every once in awhile, i'm like I should be loosing faster. But I guess I am glad that if you loose slow your skin won't sag as bad.
