I will be 6 weeks post op on Tuesday and I am having problems on what to have for breakfast. I usually have yogurt but one can only have so much of one thing. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I need a quick east breakfast that I can eat on the run. Also, does anyone have any good ideas for lunch and dinner? I can't get a good routine on the whole food thing. I'm only able to eat about 3 ouces at one time, is that normal? I'm so frustrated with the eating part of this surgery.

Hi Karlie I had lap/rny May 31st and I'm fed up with breakfast too. All I can eat is porridge oats. Over here we can buy pre-packed sachets which you cook in the microwave, so it is quick and easy to make, but boy am I fed up with it every day! I tried a couple different cereals with milk different times and each one has either made me or feel really rough and need to go to I got fed up with yoghurt way back on the early days as it was all I could eat! I guess I'll get back to it eventually... I'll be interested to read other posts on this. Hope others can give us some more ideas

I really like the South Beach Diet cereal bars. They have 10g of protein and if you have a sweet tooth (like me) they satisfy that. 3 oz is normal, our pouches are only supposed to hold that much at a time. I am really frustrated with food too, but I heard something once that made me really think. "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels." I try to remember that when I get upset. Good luck!!! Danielle

Hi there Karlie! Boy, I can understand your frustrations with breakfast! I am soooooo tired of yogurt too! I had been tolerating scrambled eggs really well but the last couple times I've eaten them recently, they sit rather heavy. But I have found a favorite that goes down well ... I have a string cheese, and then I also have 3 whole wheat Ritz crackers with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter dispersed between the 3 crackers. It has about 10-11 grams of protein for all this. You could have this for any meal, actually. It sits really well with me, it's easy, and it's quick to make. A lot of things that used to go down well aren't sitting well with me anymore. But this is one thing that has been kind to my stomach lately! I don't have a good routine on lunch and dinner either. One thing I can tolerate for lunch is some canned chicken breast mixed with lowfat mayo and a tiny bit of relish. You can put these on some whole wheat Ritz crackers too or just eat it plain. One thing for dinner I really like is to take chicken breast tenders and top them with a can of cream of mushroom soup (undiluted) and bake at 375 for about 30 minutes. It keeps the chicken moist. I am SO bored with food so I hope someone else has some good ideas too! Deanna

wow.. u get three ounces in.. I can't do that. My doc said i needed to start eating more but food just doesnt appeal to me.. I usually have a protien shake in the morning. Carnation instance breakfast with two scoops of protien and milk. Lunch.. um..if i remember I will eat some meat or cheese.. maybe a stick of string cheese and at dinner I will have maybe 1 1/2 oz of some kind of meat. At night i try and drink another protien drink.. gotta get it in somewhere so I added that when my doc said eat more... Doc wants me to add more meals. yuck so I have tried to had cheese or nuts in for another small meal... its tough getting it all in.. and if u drink your water, which is what I really want.. it messes up the eating times cause u gotta wait to drink after...

I love grilled shrimp & chicken & zuchini (I marinate the zuchini in some soy sauce) , cantaloupe, strawberries, cottage cheese with blueberries, Nectar protein drinks slightly frozen in the freezer, and mexican chicken from the local Casa Fiesta (basically pulled chicken breast prepared with taco seasoning). Hugs, Darlene

Hi Sherry, I have more than 5 grams of sugar per meal, but I think there is a difference between complex carbs & simple carbs & the way our bodies tolerate them (cantaloupe vs chocolate bar). I am, however, lactose intolerant post-op. I never was before. Just listen to your body. It will tell you what to tolerate. Darlene

IT'S GOOD TO KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE! My protein was low last blood workup. ISOPURE powder mixed in water or SKIM milk is what I am now favoring for breakfast. The ISOPURE has 50GM of protein in it for a 12oz drink mixed with water. If you add milk that ups the protein another 8gms or so. I blend it with an ice cube to make it colder, thicker. I WLS friend says that you can add SUGAR FREE cool whip to it to give it some body. I like the Vanilla best and you can purchase it at GNC or Hi-Health here in AZ. Three ounces of food is too much for me....no crackers, bread, oatmeal, etx. We got fruit(no citrus) and cooked veggies(no potatoes, tomatoes, corn or peas). No beef or por****il 4 months. I don;t care for poultry or seafood so it has been tough. Chicken fajitas aren't too bad. Basically eating is amajor hassle because nothing has appeal and then you can't drink water. In AZ I need my water because it is 111 degrees here! My goal is 90oz daily to compensate for the heat. There is aguy named David Fouts who wrote a cookbook for bariatric patients out but I can't seem to be able to get a copy online. Apparently he had the WLS himself and found out there were no food resources out there. Good luck everyone! Kathy

I like ground chicken patties. They are so quick to prepare (if you make them real thin, they defrost and cook in no time!) and easy to chew to swallowing consistency. I make the patties and put them between sheets of that Glad Wrap that sticks to itself, then toss them in the freezer. (The stuff seems to de a better job of staving off freezer burn, too.) When I first started eating ground chicken, I made patties with only about a tablespoon of meat in them--now I make them larger (I'm nine weeks out) Just use a little spray oil on the pan. Voila! The ground chicken is much more moist than a piece of chicken breast, or ground turkey! I like to season the patties with a little ground sage. Or you might try mixing a little garlic or curry powder into the meat. I also like curry powder mixed into ground hamburger, with about a teaspoon of chopped walnuts for crunch. Yum!
