Counting it all
Hi Kadie,
I had my surgery 5/8/06 and when I met with my Nut last week she said at this time not to worry about carbs, ( but not to eat them constantly, because protein is first priority) To make sure I got at LEAST 70g of protein, min of 64oz of liquids, and stay around 1000 calories. I never make 1000 calories. She said counting the carbs and fat will be much more important later. I don't eat anything with more than 5gm of sugar, because I am scared of dumping.
I hope this helps.

Hi Kadie!
Great job! It sounds like you are really doing well with your diet.
I haven't been "limiting" myself to a certain amount of calories but I find that I'm averaging about 500 calories per day. I feel like I just can't eat anymore than that! I feel full or satisfied after eating 1/4 of a cup, or slightly more, of food at each meal and then I have one snack a day.
It sounds to me like you set a reasonable goal though ... keep up the great work! How much weight have you lost so far?

My surgeon told me the purpose of this procedure was so I wouldn't have to be on a diet the rest of my life. That being said, my normal sized friends do not eat high fat & high calorie meals every day. They do, however, treat themselves to goodies at times.
I do not count my calories or carbs (although I do not do sugar). I just try to make good protein choices every day. Strangely enough, my body tells me now when it needs some type of food. I have craved broccoli, tomatoes & cantaloupe so far.
Have a great day!

Hi Kadie. I talked it over with my nut after a month. I don't count anything except protein (60-80 per day). I'm not the norm - but this is me:
protein shakes are skim milk with sugar free chocolate syrup (1 - 2 a day)
food - I try to get in my protein but it's hard with meats so I try to eat a lot of cheese including grilled cheese sometimes. I have tried a lot of different foods, I do not dump on anything, even sugar. I do throw up from time to time when I eat too much, too fast, too greasy or a combination of all three. My nut said this is normal and is not dumping.
I have no clue how many calories, fat and carbs I'm eating and don't care at this point. Personally, I don't view RNY as a diet - just a lifestyle change. I like to eat healthy when possible (salads, veggies) and I LOVE my carbs! so everything goes for me. I've lost approx. 48 lbs in less than 2 months (I say approx. because my weight fluctuates greatly day to day).
Hope all my babbling helped!
Good luck to you!
Hugs,
Heather
