How's everyone doing?
Well I am now one month out officially and here are my obesrvations:
1. the recovery from the surgery was far easier (knock on wood) than I thought it would be.
2. Weight loss is FAR slower than what I had hoped.
3. I find that I can eat practically anything I want, but it has to be very well chewed and only in small amounts.
4. #3 notwithstanding, I am losing my taste for many things, such as sugary drinks, and other sweet treats. Fried foods and other takeout items (pizza) has also lost its appeal
5. It is almost impossible for me to get in the required amounts of water and protein on a daily basis. If I meet one, then I don't meet the other and some days I meet neither becuase my appetite has deserted me quite a bit.
6. With my weight loss being so slow, I fear that I have made a huge mistake. What if I am one of those patients who never lose the weight?
7. This site is a Godsend. Without everyone here to converse with, I don't know what I would do.
I agree - this site really is a godsend..I couldn't have managed without it! By the way, how much protein a day should we be aiming for? i wasn't given a target, just told to eat food rich in protein. I was told to aim to drink 1 1/2 litres of water a day. I'm not up to that yet but getting near. Does anyone else find that there is no warning of eating too much? I find I'm OK one minute and wam, the next I'm in pain and feeling rouch because my pouch is too full....it's only happened two times but i really need to learn when to stop before I feel full.
No regrets yet, but I am worried in case it doesn't work, especially as I paid privately for mine.
weight loss is never to slow... you have to keep your eye on the prize at the end.. you had lost some weight before surgery and only need to loose a little over 120... that puts u in the light weight catagory.. u wont loose as fast as others who have more to loose than u do.. dont be discouraged.. about week two i had a 10 day platue i thought would never end.. but at 6 weeks out i am loosing again.. I want to loose it all over night.. but thats not the way it works... take the word only out of your dictionary.. your doing great and a year from now u will laugh at what u said today... its gonna be ok
I am 5 weeks out yesterday and doing GREAT! Had a couple instances with food but not until last week. Makes me kida scared to try to add new foods! So far I have lost 31 lbs and holding! For the last week. I only got in 46 gr of protein yesterday but I usually get it in. I TRY and get my water in and do pretty good. I have not tried ANY SUGARY foods and HOPE I do not! Knowing me - they would be OK and I would start eating them again. Have you tried bread or salads?
NO REGRETS!!
I have tried both breads and salads. I am used to eating multigrain breads, like NatureOvens brand, and I have had some since the surgery but I have found that breads fill me up so quickly, it is simply not worth the effort. As for salad, I have tried some, but I seem to have the most trouble with raw veggies. no matter how much I chew, it always gets stuck. For now, I am going to avoid the raw and eat veggies steamed or grilled til they are soft. As for the sugar, I agree. I wish I had not given in to temptation and tried it, but now I know my tummy can handle it I don't really want it. Sweet things are TOO sweet now, if you get my meaning. In addition, since my weight loss is so slow, I do not want to hamper it any more than what it is naturally. I am hoping once I get a routine of enough water and protein, the weight will come off.
I am 23 days out, I steam all my (30 seconds in the microwave on a saucer, with an inverted bowl or saucer over them) veggies but the leafy green mix lettuces, those I just cut up. my favorites are: teny tiny zuchinni, broccoli, teny tiny asparagus, and ity bity cucumbers.
I am totally off carbs, so breads are out, found a sliver of cinnabon (plain, homemade) gave me horrible yeast burps, so those are out.
I'm doing wonderful. I lost 9 pounds before surgery and 25 pounds in 3 weeks. I don't eat until I got in all of my water and all of my protein. Then I eat only 1 1/2 oz of soft food. I don't get sick, tired or bored. I have been walking laps in the pool everyday for the last week (after Docs OK of course) for 1-2 hours. I feeling great I'm off all of my Diabetic meds, Cholesterol meds, & bp meds. Sometimes my tummy hurts if I over do, so I let the pain be my guide and slow down. I go back to work this Friday, I work nights. I haven't had any caffine since surgery, so I think it's gonna be tough.
