I posted this on the main board, but but wanted to post it here too in case anyone who are where I'm at can offer some advice Is there a general amount of calories that we should be eating by 1 month post-op? I recently began tracking my calories on sparkpeople.com. I should be able to get my 60 grams of protein in from food, but the total calories are 805 for today (pre-planned). This seems excessive to me. I think I remember reading somewhere we should be getting only 400 by this point?

Hi Ginger - I had been told that I should ultimately aim from between 600-800 calories per today, but have not been able to do that yet. I think that 805 is basically the same as 800, so you should be ok (at least according to my surgeon). Hope this helps! Heather

at one month post op, I will be barely getting 200 calories, right now at 2 weeks post op, I am at 120 calories. I think that 800 is high.

wow katherine! EAT! U need to have calories to burn the fat. Please check your protein drinks. I'm sure they have more calories than that. It sounds like a very dangerous amount to be taking in. I'm at 3 weeks post -op and now averaging about 300 to 400 a day and I feel like I might be ready for more next week. Take care, Peace, Elena

for breakfast this morning, I had 1 oz of turkey breast, for lunch, I had 1 oz of roast beef, and for dinner I had 1 oz of halibut fish. I also eat grilled chicken, baked salmon, and grilled pork loins and have since 7 days post op. I am on a strict lean meat, leafy green vegetable diet, absolutely no carbohydrates or artificial sweeteners what so ever. and not one ounce of protein shake. which is a good thing, those things are so nauseating, I would dump before the second swollow hit my pouch. seriously, I am loosing and am healthy. today I did exceptional on my liquid intake, 32 oz in 1 hour, which for me is phenomenal.

Sorry Katherine i didn't read about the protein shakes! Now see we are told to eat about 3oz of protein at a sitting...on your plan you will definitely be losing hair and not building any muscle from exercise, I urge you to contact your nutritionist and/or your surgeon and discuss this. ANDI

that is 1 oz of meat at a sitting, 3 times a day, and this is under strict orders from the Doctor/nut. since I am getting 4 vitamins a day, I get all the nutrients from that, not from the food. I do not know about anyone else's plan, but my doctor reassured me that i do not need any protien supliments during the first 6 months post op, and I am taking folic acid for the hair loss so that is not a problem. as a matter of fact, he was pretty testy when I mentioned some of the suggestions here, since 'he has successfully worked with 1400 patients' and 'knows what he is doing' bless he heart, he is full of confidence. exersize has been intermitten. one day I can ride 9.2 miles, the next 2, it fluxuates by my energy levels but overall, I do feel really good at 20 days post op.

Dear Katherine: Are you sure that 200 calories is accurate for you on a daily basis? Are y ou drinking your protein shakes with milk? Do you drink any crystal light? What exactly are you eating to keep y our calories that low? Be Well and Be Healthy, ANDI

The poster that said 120calories - You need to check-in with your surgeon staff ASAP. That's WAY below! I was avg. 400-500 at my last appointment and the staff kicked my butt. They said I should be getting in 700-900 a day. Your body will go into starvation mode and hang onto everything if not. I upped my calorie intake since that appointment and Im' losing faster.
