So I went to costco to see what they had and I got the Pro Rated protein drink and it makes me nauseated (sp). I have to go to my post-op tomorrow at 8:45am and hopefully my Dr. will release me on some type of food that I can get my protein from. I will let him know how the protein shakes feel. What is everyone else on 1-2 weeks post op. Is everyone on a protein shake? How else can I get in my protein? Any advice will help!! Thanks, Karlie

Hi Karlie - I'm 3 weeks out, but at my 1 week appt with my surgeon, she switched me to the puree/soft foods diet, so you can get protien from cottage cheese, eggs, yogurt, tuna, etc. I still have protein shakes to supplement the protein, but its better than having those 24/7. Good luck at your appt tomorrow! Heather

Okay so i had my labs done...i'm 22 days post-op and dr called and said potassium was a little low, and to eat more bananas...i was like sure ...i haven't tried them was waiting a full month to try fresh fruit...okay so i pushed a little further and was like can i throw a strawberry in there too? And he was like that would be fine. Woohoo! That protein was gaging me...so i went to GNC and got strawberry Designer Whey Powder. I put 3icecubes, 1/3 of small banana, 1 small strawberry, 1 1/2tbls nf powder milk, 3oz h20, 1 scoop strawberry whey powder, 2tsp sf vanilla torani syrup...and blend...yummy!!! had one again for breakfast this morn...also tried a little 98%ff turkey chili w/ mozz cheese, and Lf sour cr for dinner last night. still on mush diet so everything pureed...but chili was really good...and took someone's advise on the ricotta w/low sugar tomato sauce & mozz cheese...good too. I was getting sick of pureed rotissire chk...and refied beans. have been eating a med egg pouched for breakfast some days too. It is so awsome to feel full and satisfied from such a small amout of food...I'm also really excited to try some other protein recipes w/ the new whey powders i got...i also ordered the sample pack from bariatriceating...might try choco whey w/ banana and peanut butter tonight...well i'm rambling better get to work...scale says i'm still hovering around -20lbs, but i need to take measurements cause i can actually see my collar bone emerging, Hello again! Been getting all my vits, h20, protein was hard, but yesterday i think i made some headway...so that should get better...all in due time. okay really guys i gotta go... Chandi i posted this on ca board, but thought it might help...ask dr about the fruit though.

Next week I will be 4 weeks out from surgery, and I'm eating soft foods now. I'm an really, really having trouble getting my protein drinks in. Every one I taste is either awful or too sweet, or both! I finally tried a protein bar today. I've been nibbling off of it throughout the day. It's a MET-Rx Protein Plus protein bar, chocolage roasted peanut with caramel. There are 32g of protein, 2 grams of sugar and 18g of sugar alchohol. I ate half the bar for lunch/snack, and before the end of the day I'll eat the other half. This cuts out one of my protein shakes, so I'm hoping this will work. It's kind of expensive, though (over $2 a bar), so I have the feeling I'll have to find another protein bar to substitute for the long term. I also see on bariatriceating.com that they have protein cookies (the website says "coming soon, so I'm thinking I'll order some when they come in). I had found one protein shake that I kind of liked, but over the past week or two I have come not to tolerate it very well at all. I know I have to get the protein in, but it's so hard. And then when I drink the protein shakes 2-3 times a day, it's hard for me to eat anything because I feel so full I don't want any food. What's a girl to do?????

I eat protien and drink protein, both ... have you tried Unjury? It's SO mild, truly. You can get a sampler pak and see if it works for you. It was developed for cancer patients and I find it has little or no protein taste to it, and is just great for us. http://www.unjury.com

Actually, when I went to my monthly WLS support group meeting last night the nutritionist there gave me a few samples of the Unjury and told me to try them. I was telling her how much trouble I was having finding a protein I could tolerate. So this morning I tried the Vanilla packet and blended it with about 3-4 oz. water, some frozen peach slices, and half a banana. It tasted much better than the other protein drinks I've tried. Thank you for the suggestion. I think I'll still with the Unjury Vanilla and unflavored and mix with some frozen fruit and hope that works for the long haul!
