Had surgery 5/31. All went well and I am really trying to get in all my protein, vitamins, water, etc. It's like a full time job right now. I called the doctor this morning because I've had diarrhea for the past 3 days. They suggested I try some Benefiber so I called hubby and he'll pick some up on his way home from work tonight. Anyone else had this problem? If the fiber doesn't work, I'll have to go see the doctor to make sure I'm not getting dehydrated.

Hey Paula, First off I'm not a Dr.. That being said, Benefiber is usually for constipation not diarrhea. My Dr. said I could use Imodium for diarrhea. You might want to double check the benefiber thing with your Dr.office. Best of luck. Humbly, Jeff

what are you eating and drinking? Try to rule out certain foods or liquids. I get it from milk.... atleast i know if i'm constipated, i can drink a lil' milk and it'll clean me out! HAHAHA sugar free gum does it to me too, check your labels, if it has "sugar alcohols" or sucrose, those are sugars. You'll adventually find what your tummy will tolerate! it's trial and error for us now... Good luck and i hope it's nothing serious!!! ~Alison

my rny was on the 31st, on sunday I started up my medication again, and wow, my tummy ROILED and by monday morning, I was in the toilet for the better part of the morning. granted there was nothing to come out since I have been on water and broth for 5 days, but yes, it stunk. I got back on the program, cut out the medication, and by teusday, I was better. since I had 9 pills to take, I took them two at a time, every other hour to give my tummy a chance to handle it. I got 7 down.

I had very loose stools the first week and a half. My surgeon said that it is normal since your bowels are trying to start working again and also with the diet I was on. I definetly would check into the benefiber thing - that is usually used to get fiber in to go to the bathroom. If you take a look at your diet - it would probably explain alot.

Hi Paula - I had diarrhea for the first 10 days after surgery, and I still have "mushy" bms (I guess that't too much info). I think Benefiber might have the opposite effect you are looking for, but I would double check with your doctor. Good luck! Heather
