String cheese instead of protein drinks??

I am 11 days post op and thus far am having a horrible time finding a protein drink that I can stand to drink. I've tried fruit flavors, chocolate, vanilla.... just about every incarnation, and I just don't like them. Needless to say, I haven't gotten to my 75g goal yet. But I have purchased low fat string cheese with 9 g of protein per ounce, only 60 cal and 2 g. fat. I want to just nibble on 6 ounces of the string cheese throughout the day to get the protein, and skip those nasty drinks. However, I am afraid because I'm not sure if this technically breaks the rules or might hurt me in some other way. I've got a voice mail in to my nutritionist to get her opinion, but I thought I'd ask on this message board also, since we're all going through the same experience. Any opinions on my cheese=protein plan?

I think that string cheese has a PLUGGING issue that will possibly cause some blockage, I would proceed cautiously.

Have you tried putting the incarnation in a blender with yougurt, strawberries, ice, and skim milk? This is how I make mine and there not so bad. As for the string cheese, my doctor said I could have cheese as long as I melted it. Not sure if this helps, but hang in there!

have you tried Isopure No carb in the glass bottle? it's at GNC. 20 oz has 40 Grams of protein! if you don't like the taste, mix it with crystal light and the flavor is fine. one of those a day and you're getting in fluid and over half of your protein in one fell swoop! it's been working for me. after we can eat more, protein will be easy with things like fish, but for now it's been a great help for me. I'm not doing much cheese, cuz I like it TOO much.

I have not tried string cheese, but when I was on the full liquid part of my post op diet, I ate blenderized soups with melted cheese added for protein. I tended to stay with easily mealtable but not stringy cheeses, like gouda or cheddar. I would wait to hear from the nutritionist. But after you are off the eating restrictions, cheese is a great way to get in the protein, just be careful because if you had a lactose intolerance or not before wls, you may experience some problems w/dairy afterward. I have been lactose intolerant for quite some time, but the problem has increased since wls.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I spoke with my nutritionist yesterday and she didn't recommend the extra string cheese idea - said my pouch digests too slowly and I wouldn't be able to get it all in. Apparently liquids go through much faster, and that's why my program requires the liquid protein supplements. Last night I went out and bought Isopure Zero Carb Creamy Vanilla - it's not so bad, and two scoops in 12 oz of liquid has 50g of protein!! The downside is that it is expensive.
