Feeling Frustrated!
I'm 3 weeks out and I've lost a total of 24 pounds! I should be happy but actully I'm the opposite. The first 11 days were awsome i lost 21 pounds but since then only 3 pounds and I just feel that I should be losing more? I try and walk every morning but I'm still getting sick, getting really bad pains in my stomach and I get really dizzy and nausated which my doctor says will pass with time. I'm on the pureed stage now which is also frustrating because it seems that I'm eating the same thing every singal day. Any sugestions, I could really use the help right now!
Hi Katie -
I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and have lost about 13 pounds since the surgery, and most of that happened the same week of surgery. I'm getting in my protein, water, low carbs, and exercising around 30 minutes a day. I'm also on the pureed diet. So....I'm frustrated too! I guess that doens't really help you other than knowing you are not alone!
BTW, are you taking blood pressure medications? I was having dizziness and lightheadness, and it turned out that I needed to lower my blood pressure medication; with the weight loss my blood pressure had dropped. You might want to check your bp. Just a thought...
Hang in there!
Take care,
Heather
Hi Katie,
I am 4 weeks out today and the first 21/2 weeks I lost 21 lbs then absolutely nothing for 10 days. Today I am down 1 lb. I think this is our bodies response to surgery and the drastic change in our eating habits. It thinks we are starving!!! From what I have read it will start up again and to just keep doing what the Dr. ordered. As for feeling sick and dizzy. You may need to check your blood pressure. I was on b/p meds prior to surgery and have taken nothing since the day before surg. But my b/p is now consistently low and I really have to make sure I get all of my fluids in. The pain and nausea will pass, I still have periods of nausea and pain when I overexert myself.
Hang in there things will get better!!!

Wow, I am so glad to hear this because I am in the same boat. I am 3 weeks post op today and have stayed the same for 10 days as well. I am getting frusterated because I know I am doing everything right except eating enough but I can't fit no more. I do a protein drink in the am and a piece of meat for lunch and dinner, get my 64 oz of water and still nothing. They say if your not losing lbs then your losing inches so I can only hope because I don't feel it. Only time will tell and I didn't gain it overnight so all I can do is wait it out. Here's wishing you luck. It'll show in tiime.
Take Care of you,
Debbie
Add me to the list. My surgery was the day before yours, May 11th. The first week and 1/2 I lost over 20lbs. The past week and 1/2 I have only lost a couple - and actually today the scale said I gained it back (those couple). I don't get it. I'm working out ridiculous amounts, eating high protien, low carbs, taking my vitamins and drinking my water. I'm SO frustrated. My 4 weeks appointment is on Wednesday and I'm going to freak out.
Add me to the list, too. It only really bothers me when my Mom or someone asks for 'a number'. Considering the drastic measures we've gone through, they are expecting the same progress as we saw that first week or two...
I find that I do lose more when I have eaten more --- which goes along with that 'starving body' thing. Also, after extra exercise, sometimes I see a loss.
I guess this must be normal....since we're all experiencing this.
Good luck, y'all....

You ask I'm a few short weeks out of surgery and have stopped losing weight have I failed? Is this normal? When will it start?
You have not failed. There is really no way for you to fail at this point. Your body has just come through a major trauma of a life changing surgery and is asking It's self just what the hell did You do to me?
This is very normal even though you are not losing weight at this time because your body is re-adjusting to just having major surgery what is it doing? Have you messured yourself? Are you losing inches? Are your clothes getting looser? Chances are you are there have been changes. You may not see it but others might be. Give your body a chance to catch up to itself. It may take a week maybe longer but the weight will start coming off.
Put your scales away you don't want to become a slave to them.If you feel the need to weigh yourself do it once a month. After all what is in a number? Ask yourself Do I feel better? What did I feel like before? I will lay money you are feeling different. We didn't put this weight on over night and it is not going to magically disapear the day after surgery. It's going to take some time.
The key is simple:
1. Keep up with your protein. Be it shakes or from foods.
2. get as much water into your system as possible (64 oz's min) per day
3. if you can't exercise walk as much as you can (it really does help) It doesn't matter if its 10 minute to start or 15 just keep moving.
4. Keep positive look for the small changes you might be taking for granted here. Like clothing getting looser or inches coming off. and ask yourself do I feel better?
5. Follow what your doctor has to say or your nutritionist If they didn't give you a plan to follow. DO NOT be afraid to speak up. OH members have the experience and some are more then happy to help. Don't worry about the flamers even if they have forgotten what it is like in the beginning many haven't and they are more then happy to help you.
6. Keep up with your vitamins they are very important now and for the rest of your life.
7. If you stumble back into a bad habit dust yourself off and start over. Don't be hard on yourself chances are you are NOT alone.
8. OMG you've gained a pound or two. Don't panic ask yourself is i****er weight? or are you building muscle? Muscle is heavier then fat I'm not sure why that is myself but that is how it was explained to me. On average a person can gain anywhere from 1-5 pounds in a month some can in just a day's time. It's mainly water gain the easiest way to get rid of it is? Drink more water cut back on salt and watch it fall off.
Always keep in mind noone knows it all. Some say its a science some say its blind luck but mostly its hard work and a lot of determination for all of us to stick together and lend a helping hand to those who are lost and need help.
I don't care if your pre op. post o*****n op Everyone has something to learn and you won't learn anything if your afraid to ask for help. So speak up don't be shy about it. This is YOUR life and you are the only one that can change it. Just know you are not alone doing it.

I made myself a spreadsheet, weighing only once a week, and charting it, the graph is moving down with some plateaus and squiggles, over all trend is more important than daily or weekly progress. while I do weigh in each morning, after the bathroom before the kitchen, there will be fluxuations, EXPECIALLY FOR WOMEN. I quit worrying about the #'s and look in the mirror, I have sunken cheeks, and sunken waist, HOLY COW, I do not have a smilie face, but a real one again.
put the scale in the trunk of the car, it is causing your brain to stress and that causes weight gain.
