Restaurant anxiety and what to order...
Hi everyone,
My husband and I are going out of town next weekend. I am excited but I have some anxiety about going out to dinner. I am 4 weeks post-op and have a Dr.'s appt. on Friday and I think he will put me on Soft/Adaptive Foods whi*****ludes seafood. After dinner we are going to a comedy club and probably for a few drinks after that. I hate to try something and ruin my whole evening. What suggestions do you have for restaurant choices... any seafood in particular that works well for you? Anything else?
Everyone will be drinking too..... I haven't had any alcohol since surgery, has anyone else? Everything go OK? Now I am not planning on going crazy but I would like to enjoy a drink or two. Suggestions.....
As always thanks for your suggestions and support!!!!
Kristen...I would go with something grilled or broiled. Maybe a mahi steak or something of that nature. As far as the drinks go I would be very careful. Your drinks are going to hit you a lot faster than they used to. My surgeon suggests we don't even try it till 2 months post op. Just FYI.
Have a good time. Just eat slowly to make sure you don't get icky.
Hugs!

Hi Kristen,
Congrats on your upcoming night out. I'm sure you're looking forward to it.
I was a nightly glass of wine or two drinker prior to surgey. I'm 4 weeks out and haven't had any yet. My surgeon asked me to wait 12mo - and my nutrionalist said realisticy I should wait a minimum of 6-8mo. All alcohol has high sugar levels and will limit your weight loss. If you really want to drink, she suggested a vodka and cranberry with water. To me, this sounds gross. But perhaps if you need a drink and can't not drink it will work. I will be forced into this situation in July @ a meeting in San Diego. Also, a SIP of alcohol will likely make you buzz now. Drink SLOW and becareful. It goes straight through you. However, your buzz will only so long because it leaves just as quickly. Hangovers I've heard are killer now. Yeah! Can't wait to experience that. (Just Kidding)
As far as eating, I think I'm lucky. I've gone out to eat a few times already and been very fortunate all but one time. The one time I wasn't was when I tried to it Buffalo Wings. Although I took the skin off I still had a bad dumping. This evening we went to Boston Market and I was able to eat a Ckn Drumstick (no skin) with no problem. What about trying soup with cheese? Grilled Fish? Broiled Fish? Ckn w/o the skin - make sure it's moist.
