Constipation... this SUCKS!
Anyone else constipated? I had my surgery on 5.11 and I've pooped 2x since then - both times only after taking a laxitive. I'm feeling so bloated... I got on the scale this morning and I'd gained 3lbs since Friday. I know this is impossible but noticing that I'm retaining fluids big time (swollen ankles, feet, hands) and I'm constipated. Anyone else experiencing this?

I also had mine on the 11th.If you can eat cottage cheese eat some just 1 oz at a time and it does help . Hope all flows well soon. I will pray for you . NOrma from colorado
Megan...I am pre op but on liquids and trust me I have had my share of stool problems. It really does suck. Funny liquids are supposed to keep you going normally but...I'M NOT. I feel your pain LITERALLY! Keep a poo diary it will help you understand what is happening. I know that sounds so freaking NUTS but give it a try. Also keep an eye on what you are eating. It might be something in your diet. Also ask your surgeon or surgeon's nurse about a regular fiber additive to your long list of meds already! LOL Not funny I know but that might help keep you a lil more regular. Sorry about your discomfort honey. Hope all is ok soon.
Hugs!

I bet if you woul up you water intake, you will find some releif. Most constipation comes as a result of dehydration in the system. avoid dairy if you can for a couple of weeks. Dairy products slow down your intestinal system. Prune juice is a great idea and so is keeping a food and poo diary. Also, you need to inform your dr. of this situation. It is not good to have not elimated at least once every other day. He might need to do some additional testing to insure you do not have a blockage of some sort.
I can relate. it's an odd situation for me, cuz I was a very "regular" guy before the surgery. I had lap rny on 5/2/06, and I've had a terrible time getting normalized. only going every 3 or 4 days... I started Benefiber a few days ago, and have been trying to drink as much liquid as I can. I am also going to try the prune juice!
I'm sure this will all work out in the end!!!

I havent experienced it but one of the girls on another board did. she didnt have a bowel movement for 3 weeks and her doc told her to eat sugar free ice cream and it worked(If it wouldnt have, the next step was Milk of Magnesia). Ask your doc, maybe its an option.
I had surgery on 5~25 and have had 2 bowel movements since AFTER having broth off of greens my aunt made for the holiday.
