I HAVE FOUND THE BEST TASTING PROTEIN DRINK!

I just had to share with everyone my wonderful find. I had my surgery on May 15th and I was discharged home the next day. The first few days were pretty painful with the soreness and gas, but I'm doing pretty well as of the past several days. I owe this to going on full liquids (I think it helped move the gas pains away), walking and being able to successfully get in my 70 oz. of protein drink. I found one that tastes absolutely delicious and didn't make me feel nauseous at all. It tastes JUST like chocolate milk, and there's no funny "protein drink taste" that can make drinking the protein drinks post surgery almost impossible. It's Champion Nutrition's Pure Whey Protein Snack, Chocolate flavor. You can get a big tub that has 72 servings for about $27.00. 2 scoops mixed with 8-10 oz. water (and I add 3-4 cubes of ice) gives you a whopping 46 grams of protein. I fix one 8-10 oz. drink around 11 a.m., and have a smaller drink with a heaping scoop and 5-6 oz. of water around 4:00 and I've had my full 70 oz. by the end of the day. Honestly, at this point the chocolate drink is the best tasting thing I'm taking in at this full liquid stage, so I actually look forward to drinking them. I got mine at a nutritional store in Atlanta at Ansley Wallk off of Monroe Drive, but if you don't live in Atlanta you can order it online at www.champion-nutrition.com. It comes in other flavors I haven't tasted yet, like Cookies-N-Cream, Banana Cream and Vanilla. They also have a Mocha Chocolate, but I don't think we can have this one since it has caffeine in it. I hope those who are having difficulty finding a protein drink that they can tolerate will give it a try and it works for them (smile).

I also had my surgery on May 15. Doing good and feeling better everyday. I agree with you, the Champion Pure Whey in chocolate is delicous. I add less water and use ice and it makes it thicker like a milkshake. If I need more fluids I will add more water. It is very yummy. I tried the Cookies-N-Cream and it tastes like ice cream and is also very yummy, but right now it is a little too sweet. You can also go to Vitalady.com and she will send you samples. I love these shakes!! Christy

Christy, thanks for the vitalady.com website. I like the Chocolate very much, but don't want to get bored with it over time. So I just went to your website and ordered samples of the Champion Cookies N Cream and Strawberry. If they taste as good as the Chocolate, I'll probably get them from the nutritional store and alternate. I hope you continue to feel better every day. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to progress to soft foods. If you're looking for some great recipes for bariatric patients, I just bought a book called "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" by Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray. Pat is a professional writer and cook, and after her surgery she compiled this wonderful cookbook to help us creat easy and yummy dishes that are "WLS safe." The great thing about this cook book is that for each recipe, at the bottom, she give you portions and preparation instructions depending on what stage you are at, and what type of WLS you had. She also breaks down protein, fat content. I've already identified a couple recipes that I'm going to try. Another thing is that almost all her recipes can be pureed if you're at the full liquid-pureed foods stage.

Thank you so much for the cookbook. I am going to get that. So how are you feeling? How is your water in take? My doc has us going home eating soft foods, thank goodness. I don't have any problems with food. I have a little soreness still, but not too bad. My energy level has started picking up. I walk every morning and evening. The only issue I have is the fluid intake, he wants 60oz daily. Before I could drink a gallon of water everyday and I never dreamed it would be so hard to get it all in. By the end of the night I feel like I am floating. I am getting it in, but I have to stay on top of it all day long. Once I eat my 2oz for each meal I am so full, then 30 minutes later I have to start sipping. I feel like that is all I do is sip all day. Anyways since we are the same date I was just curious with how you are progressing!! Christy

Hi Alisa! I had my surgery on May 15th, too! I am feeling good as well. Thank you so much for sharing your protein drink. I have been drinking the cans of Worldwide Chocolate and they are really getting yucky. I think I'll call The Vitamin Shoppe and GNC locally to see if they have it! Thanks! Sandy
