I'm scheduled 5/25 for lap RNY. I have tentatively scheduled myself back in the office on 6/5. Is this too soon? I mainly just sit at a desk all day pushing papers and working on the telephone. Any suggestions?

I had open RNY on 5/1 & went back to work 5/12 for 4 hours & then 7.5 hours today. I was tired, but it was doable. Everyone is different though. With yours being Lap, you should be fine. Darlene

Even though I'm a nurse, my job consist of paperwork also, because I work the night shift at a female prison. I've heard others say that they were very tired, and the emotions were a little out of whack and it takes a month to feel "normal". Play it by ear.....maybe. I was told 2 weeks with Lap, A very friend of mine had her daughter drop her at the hospital (no one was supposed to Know she had WLS), and she went back to work 2 days later with Open. We all questioned why she wasnt driving and she was , because her daughter( who was tired of driving her) spilled the beans!!! I'm taking off 8 weeks

I had scheduled myself to have 3 weeks off, but came back after 2 weeks. I was just going nuts at home and wanted the routine of being back at work. The hardest part was re-working my meal schedule into my work schedule. I too have a desk/paper pusher job. But I think 1 week post op I was still too tired to get up and do the grind every day. It's going to be a little different for everyone and how they fast they recover from the anesthesia and deal with pain. Good luck with everything! Leia

I just made two weeks and am thinkiing about going back to work I'm tired of being home all I do is clean. anywhere from 2-3 weeks is doable but it is up to you doctor and really how you feel . And your work enviorment. Mine is high stress i'm glad to stay home as long as he will let me.

Lap Band on 05/03/06 with
I had lap band surgery on 5/3 and went back to work on 5/8 with no problems. I am also a paper pusher and work 3rd shift and mostly do not much. You have to play it by ear. If you feel well enough, go back to work. If not, stay home a little longer.

Another paper pusher here.... I took 3 weeks off from work and I am now 2 weeks post-op and I think 3 weeks will work out great. I would be OK to go back to work next week if I had to. At first I was overwhelmed by all the discharege instructions but, now I am now comfortable w/ everything. (My surgeon perscribed 6 different meds plus Optisource 4x/day and Tums 3x/day all at different frequencies... and I did not take anything so that was alot for me to keep it all straight ) I guess I just feel like a sponge at this point... there is so much to learn about my new way of life that I am thankful I have another week to surf this website and others and get caught up on minor projects that I have been putting off. Good Luck!!!!!!!!
