Hi Diane! I had Open RNY on May 1st! And since i got my G-tube out, i've felt on top of the world!! I was moved to soft/pureed at my 1wk post op appt. and i've been doing great on that! i've been doing my best getting in all my water though. I've tried to stay away from the protien shakes though, i'm not having any problems eating meats, so i'm hoping i'm getting enough in that way. (i hate the taste of that powder, and i've tried a few different ones already) Anyways... I"m not real sure how i stand on the weight loss. if i count it from the first day i seen my surgeon, i was 254, but if i count it from a couple days before surgery i was 242... Today i weighed in at my local clinic and am at 235, so it's either a 19lb loss or a 7lb. loss..... LOL it seems slow compared to others i read about, i am really hoping i'm where i should be at so far!!! pain wise, i'm really feeling no pain, just a little discomfort if i turn wrong or bend too far.... lol.... i'm finally able to stretch a bit more, and WOW does that feel great!! I'm walking upright now hahaha and sleeping soundly at night!! and i'm able to sleep on my sides and back, but not my tummy yet... lol Hope your finding good inspiration in your little corner of the world!! ~Alison

Hi Diane, I start full liquids tomorrow & I am soooo ready to get off these clear liquids. I am still a little sore too, mine was open RNY. I can't believe I am craving cottage cheese. Darlene

OMG - you've been on CLEAR liquids since May 1st? That would have been so hard for me. My doctor started me on full liquids after the 2nd day and luckily I haven't had any problems - even pushing sugar a couple of times with apple sauce and dairy products. No dumping yet so I'm lucky so far. I can't take much more of these full liquids even so I really feel for you doing clear liquids all this time! I bet it's easier on your pouch and you may be better off than me in the long run but my doctor never said anything about being on clear liquids that long.

Hi Rick, Yeah, my doc is a little particular on the post-op diet. He wants to give the stoma time to heal to reduce the chance of a stenosis. I am just happy to be able to eat cream of broccoli soup today. Yum, Yum. Darlene

Well, I just got back from my first follow-up appt and since it has only been 10 days since surgery he wants me to wait until next Wednesday before starting soft foods for the same reason. That was a disappointment. It' going to be really hard staying on this full liquid diet for another 6 days. I'll get through it but it won't be easy. If I could only eat tuna fish or soft boiled ham I'd get in all the protein needed. He told me don't worry about the amount of protein I get in until then though so I don't have to worry so much.
