Hi Just wondering if anyone out there has had the lap-band and It didn't work for them and then had the RNY done? I had my Lap-band done Dec o4, and have lost 50 lbs thankful for that much. but the last 8 months has been a total battle I only lost 10. Now my dr. thinks I should condsider having the RNY done. Hope someone could help me. I'm over 50 and suffer with Fibromyliga . Does anyone think that RnY would work better for me or I'm I just meant to be fat. My mom says its in the jeans and doen't want me to have it done ? I would appreicate any input anyone has. Thanks Marilyn

I personaly don't beleive in 'it's in the genes' bit. Some of us just need more help than others. It's too bad your surgeon didn't have you have the RNY to start of with. If your insurance will cover it I would go for it. I am older than you and I am having it done. I feel God is giving me this oppertunity to make changes in my life and I want to change. I want to be thin! Marilyn I will lift you up to God and ask His blessings on you. Cathi Nicholas

Lap Band on 05/03/06 with
hi Marilyn, I had lap band surgery May 3rd and have lost about 12 lbs. so far. I understand how it works and it is similar to just "being on a weigh****chers diet". I hope to lose 1 to 2 lbs. a week. Contrary to the RNY, which changes HOW your food is digested and has partial malabsorption, the only thing the lap band does is restrict your stomach to the point you feel full sooner. I think you should "work with it" and have your doctor tighten the band a little and keep trying. It takes about 2 yrs sometimes to reach your goal if you have a lot of weight to lose. However, if you still have a large amount of weight you still want to lose (100 lbs or more) and don't want to wait, I would probably go for it. Your doctor should have informed you, as mine did, that with the lap band surgery you have to have a certain amount of will power and if you don't, to go for the RNY. I am 57 yrs old and I don't know what Fibromyliga is, but I actually had this surgery in order to stop taking medication for my diabetes and perhaps lengthen my life. I also have GERD (acid reflux) and no longer have symptoms. I opted for the lap band because I did not want to CHANGE THE WAY I DIGEST MY FOOD and have to take supplements for the rest of my life. whatever you decide to do, be thankful you lost 60 lbs so far and I wish you best of luck and success with your goals in the future. June
