Topic: RE: Iron Deficiencies anyone?
I had a iron transfusion about 6 weeks ago.I can tell you I was eating ice for about 6-9 months like crazy.I did take chewable iron but I guess it wasnt enough.I had 6 iv treatments of iron wasnt bad at all (treatments). My craving for ice went away.I guess my body wasnt absorbing iron too well plus I have super heavy periods so that doesnt help. They have put me on a new iron pill called tandem plus.I havent taken it everyday but I take it pretty consistently.I have another set of blood draws the end of the month.I was told they were shocked that I could get out of bed ,my ferritin and iron levels were so low (before infusions). As off the last infusion they were in the normal range.I need to get my heavy periods under control and I think I will do better with my iron levels...we will see.~Laura~

Hello all,
I'm still alive and kicking but I don't get to stay as in touch with you guys. Life really flies when you have some energy.
I'm still enjoying being a mom to four wonderful kids. My husband and I are looking at buying a house right now.
Healthwise, I've had some female problems and I might possibly be facing and second back surgery (I feel for you Kathy).
I was hovering around the 155 mark, however I've been put back on some medication for my back that causes some weight gain so I'm up to 160 - 162 right now and trying to get a hold on things.
Overall, it's been a little bumpy the last little bit (watched my granny die in March), but I'm still moving along. My kids and husband keep me going.
Miss you Kathy and thanks for posting this!

Hello Maysters! Hope all is well with everyone.
I am posting to ask how many of us have problems with anemia now that we are two years out. I am anemic, have been for 7-8 months now. I have to say, I am a bit concerned about iron deficiency. My sister, who had the gastric bypass 5 years ago, also turned anemic post surgery, and has gotten to the point where she now needs iron infusions. I fear that although I take extra iron, as recommended by my doctor, I may be headed down that same path. She has always been good about taking her vitamins and supplements. Honestly, the only thing that's changed for both of us, is that we weren't having at least one protein shake a day anymore. (I have recently worked that into my daily regimen again.) Does anyone else have similar problems?

Hey there Kathy! Good to hear from everyone. I've been having a great summer! Last summer was focused on moving, new city and cramming my family in an apt. until our house was finished. I was teaching in a new school, putting my little one in child care for the first time, then moving in the new house in the middle of the school year. I guess they are normal people stresses but good stresses and I love change!
I had my 2 year post-op. I'm holding anywhere from 135-140...I can usually go back down when I stay away from sodium and those not so good foods. I'm still a size 6 so I'm pretty happy. Doctor was very satisfied; all lab results came back normal.
I have no complaints. I'm enjoying my summer off from teaching, spending time with my 3 and 7 year old and having a blast. My husband is still very supportive of me and we are happy and healthy. I'd love to have plastics: breast lift, implants and a tummy tuck but I need to wait for my littlest one to start school and I can afford it.
Love you to all!

Jody,
I'm very saddened by the news about your son. I'm glad that you could share this with us. Your words were a poetic tribute to him - the man, son, husband, father, soldier and above all hero.
Take good care of yourself and your family. I'll be keeping you all in my thoughts.
If I had kids to hug, I'd definitely throw many in there for you, me, etc.
Hugs to you, Kathy

Hi Kathy and other Maysters,
Wow lots can happen to all of us during the last couple of years. I was the odd ball in the group who had the VBG, it has continued to be an effective tool for me and I am hanging around 147 from a high of 264 so not to bad! My husband and I have been able to take 6 mile hikes in the mountains with no problems.. now that is a big change.
I do have some sad news to share with all of you and have waited until now since I hate to bring everyone down but it is something I have to share.
My son was killed on May 26th over in Iraq, he was driving a Stryker and made the decision to move it and protect his men that had left the vehicle and came under fire. He was given the Bronze Star, Purple Heart you name it we got it. I am so proud of him and so sad at the same time. He was a young man that joined the military to care for his family and felt he was doing the right thing, life was always a struggle for him financially but he left his wife and baby very well off and is a hero both here and in Idaho his state of record for enlistment.
All of you hold your kids close and love them because time passes so quickly! We always think there is tomorrow but sometimes that just never comes. My son had his memorial on his 24th birthday.. talk about hard on a mom and was buried on June 9th.
Sorry you guys, but have to share with all that have been here for our WLS ride.
Love you lots.. so now go hug those kids for me!
Jody
