Topic: RE: OMGSH - I've got head hunger
We're with ya Laurie, boredom , schedule changes and too much time on our hands spells " What's in the fridge?" and " what can I eat?" We are undergoing some big schedule changes in my house too. I don't have the answer but am trying to keep extra fruit and cheese sticks and yogurt around so if I just gotta eat ...maybe they'll be what I choose. Coming on the msg. board and sharing is a great help...cuz we all know where you're coming from. It's a safe place to open up and express what's bothering us. I've never seen any criticism or unkindness here. It's comforting just to know you'll be 'heard'. I just re-read your comment about never wanting tuna ...and had to laugh cuz can't remember ever scrounging around the kitchen for some tuna to snack on. Hang in there, you are not alone. Mary

No way - can you believe it??? Me - Miss I can't eat enough, this is weird. My husband is now gone for three days at a time for his work. The adjustment has been pure H%%l on me and the kids. I find my self very depressed lately. And all I want to do is EAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm eating my meal, then drinking my water, then chewing gum and watching the darn cloc****il my two hours is up so I can eat again!!! This is absolutely NUTS Today I went to the store and bought sf twizzlers, knowing full well that the first time I bought them I got very sick off them. And of course, I did again tonight.... but I wanted them!!! Why is it that we never "want" a can of tuna, or a protein drink??? It's always the JUNK that calls our name. I've got to find something to do with my days besides waiting for Steve to come back and watching the clock to eat...... this is not gonna work for any length of time. Laurie

Topic: RE: Pouch spasms?
Thanks for the suggestions. I have noticed that when I am talking alot while eating that I don't focus on chewing my food to death before swallowing. I do need to get back to the basics. I have lost slightly more than 180# in my 15 month journey to a healthier me. I have been reading posts but haven't written very many since having the surgery. I have found that since I am more active I don't spend very much time on the internet any more. I used to live here. LOL I am sorry I haven't updated my profile. I need to post a new pic of me too. You all are great! Kim D.

Hey, hon! I'm with Laurie. If the results don't come out showing an answer, be sure the other Bs get tested. While B12 is often the culprit with neuropathy but I think other Bs can contribute. My B12 levels have always been okay and when I was having droopy foot problems and pins and needles in my feet... I upped the B 50 complex to the B 100s and it went away except for those problems that come from my lower back. I hope you find out all your answers, sweetie! I'm thinking of you. Hugs, Kathy

Hey, Michelle! Sorry to hear you are having such problems. I was wondering if this was all fibro related. I don't know much about that but from what Mary wrote... it sounds possible. I hope you get answers soon and on the road to recovery and your TT in due time. I do know how it feels to not know what is wrong so I know your frustration oh too well. Hugs, Kathy

Topic: RE: chewing gum
When you chew gum you increase the amount of saliva that flows into the pouch and this help flush food out of the pouch and helps digest the food. I sometimes find chewing gum to help with food that is sitting harshly in the pouch. I cannot say that I've noticed increased hunger but it makes sense but I don't chew gum that often because I chew obsessively and go through a pack in no time at all. Kathy

My surgeon says no gum at all, but I think that's because he's had to surgically remove it from a pouch opening before. I have heard that aspertine increases hunger, which is one of the reasons I'm not allowed diet drinks. Maybe that's what's happening?

Topic: chewing gum
Someone suggested chewing gum to me since I have a bad habit of wanting something sweet after eating(bad habit carried over pre op). So I have become an avid gum chewer, kinda like a smoker has a cig I pop in some gum. Well Ive noticed that every since I started chewing it that I get hungry lots sooner. Like for instance I can eat a meal and last a good two hours without feeling any hunger but when chewing gum its like 30 min to an hour. Usually when I feel this I just drink water but I think Im going to have to kick the gum habit. Its like my pouch knows Im chewing so it clears everything out expecting a drop. Weird! I refuse to buy anymore but now Im already missing it. Do any of you chew gum now? Do you notice the same thing? Candy
