Thanks to all who have been there for me on this journey. Here are my stats and thoughts on my journey:

Blood Work
Pre-op: Cholesterol - 192; LDL - 95; HDL - 56; Triglycerides - 205
2 years post-op: Cholesterol - 166; LDL - 90; HDL - 62; Triglycerides - 72
From Surgery Letter 12/04: "Most of my life, excess weight has not stopped me from being fairly active. Sure, I never liked the way I looked, but most activities were not off limits to me. In the last 8 years that has changed. I now must look at a chair before sitting in it and decide if it will hold me (some have not), I dread going on amusement park rides with my kids because what if the safety bar won't close (they almost haven't). When I go up and down stairs, I must brace myself for the pain and grinding in my knees. When I wake in the morning, I must shuffle like an old woman (I'm 40) because the plantar fasciitis flares up during the night. I'm too young to feel this old."
Well here I am three years later and how's it going? Pretty darn good. My health has been great, I have few adverse reactions to food and I have kept the weight off! I can sit on any chair, I have no "will I fit" fear of roller coasters, my knees and feet are happier.
No, I am not perfect in the foods I choose and I need to exercise more. I am starting a 10 week walk-to-run clinic on my anniversary and I am hoping the accountability will help be get it entrenched as a habit. I also plan on running a 5K at the end of it!
I have walked in two Breast Cancer 3-Days since my surgery and that is something I NEVER would have done at almost 300 pounds. I have more confidence and that is reflected in my work and in the volunteer opportunities I have had to courage to take part in.
This was not the cure-all to my life problems, nor did I expect it to be. I have met some great people and received so much support from OH and Park Nicollet. WLS does not define who I am today, but it has helped me be the person I was meant to be. I still have goals to meet in all areas of my life and, Goddess willing, I will be around for many years to keep working on them.
Take care.

Aliya,
Last week I did the 5dpt as you know and it totally worked. I went to breakfast and got full after just a little bit. I'm glad I did it and tomorrow I am going to drink my water and drink my protein drinks. Glad you're here.

Thanks Kimber,
I had the same experience. My pouch is feeling small again as well. Some of us are going again this Monday. I want to lose a few p;ounds and continue to keep my stomach tight. If you want to stay in touch go to the California board and read under 5DPT to see what we are up to and start again with us if you so desire. Thanks again for your positive in put..
Jane
PS one does not need to be from California to play along you know the more the merrier.

Hi All,
I am also a fellow Mayster (05-16-05) I had my bypass, I lost 92 lbs. I mostly lurked around the site on and off. I remember many of you, Kathy, Becky Sue, Yellow Rose, and many others. I did great until the last 3 months. I am, as it sounds like most of us dealing with LIFE (teenagers, work, etc.) Lots of STRESS! I won't make you guys read my woes, but they sound very similar to many that I have read. Anyway....I started STRESS eating again. I gained about 8lbs before I really got scared. So I started reading and searching on-line. I really thought that I had stretched my pouch and was headed back to the heavy side...slowly but surely.
That's when I found the "Neighborhood" and the 5 day pouch test. What an awesome message board and support group.
I just finished the 5dpt yesterday! Today was Day 6 and My POUCH STILL works. The test is very hard, so I do encourage any who try it to make sure to get a partner or two, (I believe there was 6 of us) and POST, POST, POST....it felt great to have others there with me...They helped me through the 5 days and I would like to think that I helped them. I felt accountable to my partners, I felt like if I gave in, I would let them down and they may give in also. So, each day we checked in with each other.
The test is good! I had tried it 2 time before on my own, but never made it past the 2nd day. This time I charged in, joined the neighborhood and asked for support & help. So, I truely believe the only reason I was successful, was because several of us did this together, and the veterans were there CHEERING us on ALL THE WAY. Giving tips, answering questions, etc.
So don't do it alone! Whatever you do, get some support. I feel sooooo empowered after my 5dpt....NO, i'm not fixed, but I know that my tool is NOT broken or gone!
I do have control and power to make it work for me. NOW...the hard part is getting control of my stress and finding a healthier alternative to reduce & soothe my stress!
Best Wishes to All,
Kimber

Hi Carol,
I emailed you a response. Did you get it? A group of us are starting again this Monday. You should check out the California message board to see what we are doing. We post there daily. You don't have to be from Cali, we are all in this together. The web site is www.5daypouchtest.com and it will give you all the details. It has helped me get back to portion control and protein and yes that evil...water. You should try it with us MOnday. I look forward to hearing from you.
