Would you rather be unemployed or overweight?
I got this in a medical daily briefing email that I get each day. Thought it was interesting.
Et cetera: More Americans would prefer to be unemployed than overweight
05/02/2006
A recent poll in Fitness magazine finds that more than half of U.S. adults would rather be unemployed than gain a significant amount of weight, USA Today reports. The poll, which surveyed more than 1,007 individuals, found that 58% of women and 54% of men would rather lose their jobs than gain 75 pounds. In addition, 63% of women and 55% of men reported that they would rather "be poor and have no extra pounds to lose than be rich and substantially overweight." According to the survey, the vast majority of men and women would not be willing to sacrifice 20 IQ points to "gain the perfect body," but 7% of men and 5% women said they would do so "in an instant." The executive editor of Fitness says the findings suggest that "people believe it's a monumental struggle to lose weight" but that "in reality, small daily changes can make weight loss a much less daunting effort" (Hellmich, 5/1).
Did it say who the poll was given to? Was it to Fitness magazine readers or just the average Joe/Josephine on the street? To me, that makes a big difference.
Personally, I'd rather be rich and overweight. Cuz if I was rich, I could afford a personal trainer and a personal chef or WLS even if my insurance wouldn't cover it.
