Hi All ~ Well, I had my one year appointment today (a few weeks early of my May 11th surgiversary). The office was great and supportive as usual, but it was kind of a bummer appointment. I have been struggling with the same 5 pounds for the last 2 months -- and it's getting old! I still have 30 pounds to goal (100 lbs total), and I really need to get moving on this again. My surgeon is great -- he is so upbeat (and gives great hugs). He told me to stick to the plan, and I agreed, which is a white lie. Their plan is that you eat 3 meals a day, only 4 oz each. No snacks, no protein, no nothing. This program worked well for me in the beginning, but over the last several months, it changed into snack on everything in site when I'm not eating my 3 meals. So, about a month ago, I decided to try something new. I went to a nutritionist, and she set me up on a balanced program based on the diabetic exchange. I still eat more protein than anything else, but I do get some fruit, veggie & starch in as well. It is set up so I eat around 1,000 a day, which I think is good. It has been a pretty good program, and when I stick to it, I can see the weight loss, even as slow as it is. I think 1,000 cals a day is a good place for me to be (I'm 5'1"). So, I guess part of me is feeling guilty that I'm not following their program. I just feel like I need to find my own way on this right now. And if I don't see marked improvement on the scale in another month, I'll stop the nutritionists program and probably go back to theirs or something in between. Anyone else straying from their surgeon's gospel and finding success? On an up side, My labs looked good. My iron was low before, and it's much better with supplements. B1 & B12 were good, along with everything else. So, I see my surgeon in another 6 months -- and I am looking forward to being at goal and showing him that I can do it. Angie Seely
