Clothes buying bingeing?

I can't seem to quit buying clothes. I'm buying very cheap ones, but, seem to keep going through these periods of wanting stuff that fits, even though it may not fit for long. I think I will feel better about it when I'm closer to my goal so that I know the clothes will last. Although, since I've been on a stall with my weight loss, clothes are still lasting...it just feels so fantastic to wear normal sizes! In our support group they told us that "you don't have to buy everything just because it fits!" I laughed at the time, but, feel myself in that trap. There was just so many years of not finding things that fit. I'm a nut. Lori 384/245/168

Yup, you are a nut! A good nut. There is no question that one feels better in clothing that fits. I'm lucky that I got a fair amount of clothing from my sister. I'm sure that saved me some major shopping sprees. It was fun to try that stuff on every month or two and see what was fitting next. I do not know if this is your issue but I know many that have transferred their former eating behaviors to shopping. I guess this isn't a big stretch/surprise. I guess whether it is a problem depends on how much you are buying, if you are spending the rent/mortgage money on clothing, if you don't have room in your house for all the clothing you are buying, etc. I think that we all know how good it feels to be able to buy clothing in regular sizes. The options are so expansive. To me, I found it very overwhelming at first. I remember that first trip to Macys and the mall. I felt completely and utterly out of my element and just plain lost. There were just far too many choices. Yikes! I have some t-shirt tops that I bought last fall probably at Kohls. Just things to wear with capris, shorts (when I wore them... LOL!) They are size large and this year definitely fit much more roomier. Of course, they look fine on me but I didn't want them loose or roomy. I wanted it to look just right. So I did go and buy a bunch of them in a size M. Of course I had to pester Rich "Do these look okay? I don't look stuffed in them do I? They aren't too tight, are they?" He humored me and my paranoia. LOL! Anyway, I didn't mind spending $6 per top. Yea! I'm rambling... Shop on! Kathy

Our support group almost always has someone in every size - so we swap clothes out all the time. I was the one who brought all the clothes last time - four garbage bags full of 18-22s. I'm pretty low on clothes right now, though. Not jeans - got boatloads of those, but nicer clothes. I've just taken on a position that I need to wear professional clothes quite frequently and I've got 2 pairs of black pants, 1 pair of gray, and 2 pairs of khakis but only like 3 nice tops, so I need to get me some dressier tops. Michelle, This is great. My support group was helpful trading clothes when they were bigger sizes. I need to go and check out the closet again and see if they have any size 18s (which is what I wear now). I have to dress professionally every day for my job too...that is part of my motivation for shopping. Lori

Kathy, I haven't spent the mortgage on clothes...yet! No, I'm kidding...when and if I ever get to goal though, I may need some serious help...the thing that keeps me from going too crazy now is thinking that I will still lose...which, of course, I so hope is true! Lori 384/245/168

I didn't think you had spent the mortgage. LOL! I know exactly what you are talking about. I still would like to lose this last 10. Actually it isn't 10, it is back down to 8.5 (yesterday 7.5). What is up with the PMS loss of weight. Didn't happen last month but happened many of the months before that. I know Becky had the same experience. I just don't get hormones. Anyway, while 8.5 lbs isn't going to make a big difference in clothing - at my size... it is probably one clothing size. I still have $400 in gift cards for Macys from my birthday and Christmas and I'm just not ready to spend 'em yet. I did buy 3 pairs of pants and that black dress last week. Anyway, I keep holding onto the gift cards waiting for the right weight so I can splurge a bit. Though when I shop...I don't buy at full price. I wait for the sales and scour the sales racks. I love to get alot for my money. Heck, I love my workout t-shirt tops from Kohls that I paid $6 for. They wash and wear great. Kathy

I can relate to this! I have intentionally NOT bought a lot of clothes, though because someone in our support group said that when they got to a size 16 they were so excited and kind of stalled out for a while so they thought they were done losing and went out and spent nearly $1000 on clothes only to have the weight loss start up again and she had to get rid of all of those clothes. She ended up at a size 6 (unfortunately is back up to a 14) but I keep remembering that and don't buy anything at this point that is more than $10-15. HOWEVER, when I do see a really good sale or go to the thrift store it is difficult not to buy everything that fits just cuz I can actually find something that fits! At a size 4X or 32W it's really hard to find things! Now at a M-L top and 16 bottom, I can always find stuff!!! Michelle

Aliya, This is a good idea...maybe I should set a weight goal before I let myself shop again? Especially, because I've been stuck for one month at the same weight. Thanks for the idea...let me know how it works for you! Lori
