Water loading?

I saw on the main board where someone said they drink alot of water right before they eat as a means of filling them up and preventing them from eating too much. I was always taught the 30 min before and after rule but sometimes drink up until 15 min before. I try to wait an hour or hour and a half after to maintain my full feeling. I know our pouch is like a funnel and fluids flow right through them but I tried it yesterday and guess what I think it kinda worked. I think I only drank like about 8-10oz. but went straight to eating after that and I noticed that I couldnt in fact finish my lunch which was a normal lunch I have everyday and finish with no problems. I was scared that Id get hungry sooner but it was about the same time Id normally get hungry. I just thought this was neat. Anyone else do this, Im sure youve all heard about it. The lady that said she does this also said she sometimes drinks her protein shake right before a meal and notices an even fuller effect. Havent tried that though. What do you think? Candy

I've heard of it more as a tool to prevent snacking... *Almost all patients after the gastric bypass procedure achieve fifteen to twenty-five minutes of satiety after simply rapidly drinking water to a point of fullness, or "water loading." * Makes sense. I've heard it can be a great long term tool and now for the newly post-ops that really need calories. I might have to try it. Kathy

I've heard of it, and I try to practice it as well, and yes it does work! I'm thinking of trying the protein though!
