Is it possible...

Is it possible to have a hernia and not know it? I mean, I've seen pics of hernias and it looks like right before the alien came out of Sigourny Weaver's stomach - kinda hard to miss. But can you have one and not really notice it? I've got this on again, off again tenderness right about wear my pouch is, I think... Just under my ribcage, about 2 inches from center. It's not bad, it doesn't hurt all the time, and it's not deep-organ pain, more like bruise pain, without the bruise. I keep poking at the sore spot trying to decide what it might be. There's no lump or anything, that I can feel, and I feel fine, it's just a little tender. Could it be a hernia?

Is it on the right or the left? Dull or sharp? Kathy (trying not to play a doctor on the internet)

Left, about 3.5 inches from my far top left lap scar. It doesn't bother me unless I press on it, and then, it's like a bruise feel. Kind of like if you bang your leg and don't realize it and later lean down with your hand over where you banged it and you're like "huh, that's sore, what did I do?" It's not all the time, I noticed it once, maybe twice before, a while ago, and it went away. Really not a big deal, I just noticed it today because I leaned against my desk to read something on my computer and it felt sore... Probably not going to call my doc unless it gets worse, but I've got blood work coming up with my PCP in the next couple of weeks, and go in for my 1 year in 6 weeks, so I'll definately bring it up then...

Yup, just ask your doctor when you are there! Kathy

I have a similar thing going on, and have for several years, actually. It tends to bother me more when I'm more active (like now). I'm kinda thinking of going to my PCP 'cos I'm getting tired of it. I have the distinct hope that if it's a hernia that I can get an all-expenses paid TT. Let us know. Eileen PS. How's your daughter doing?

She's doing much better, thanks for asking. It appears there was no permanent hearing loss, I followed her around today whispering in her ear to make sure it was healing... I went to work (almost wished I hadn't when I saw what I was walking into...) and she went to the sitter's, all back to normal. As for the hope for the hernia... well... Not that I'm looking for trouble, but yeah, the all-expense paid TT did cross my mind...
