In the still of the night...

Last night, Rich did his first DJing job at the classic rock station (WARW 94.7) here in Washington DC. He did weekend DJing several years ago at WINC FM in Winchester, VA but quit about 3 years ago to have weekends free. The opportunity arose to work on WARW (the station is located in the same office area as his day job - traffic reporter) and do fill in work on the weekends so I told him to go for it. The pay is nice. I'm not happy about losing him for the time on the weekends since we have such little time together during the week since he works til 9 pm but it is good for his career. So last night, he was just doing some drops during the first few hours of the shift so that the management could hear him before he fills in for regular shifts. I set my alarm for 11:55 pm. I was so sleepy... I pushed my hand in the dark over to the radio which I had already tuned to the station earlier before I headed to bed. So I listened and listened and all I heard was music. 40 mintues of music. And it all sounded the same. You know what I did? I did turn the radio on but I hit the CD play button. So for 40 minutes I was half asleep listening to a Seether CD. A bit loud for me even though I had the volume low. In my groggy state, I figured out what I had done and finally go the radio on. I did listen to Rich for a few of hi****s (where he talks). He sounded pretty good. He said he got better as the evening wore on as he got his "sea legs" and confidence back again. Silly me... Seether... Kathy

Kathy, This made me laugh. I have a radio show that is in the daylight hours now. It is from 10 am to 2 pm on Sundays. But, I've done lots of late night and sometimes when one of my friends has a special late night show I will try and listen...but, now with my 5 am exercise routine, I do the same thing...I do not know what is happening and sometimes I'm on the wrong station! If you ever want to try my show (remember I'm a volunteer, not a professional). It is folk music show called "Sunday Sagebrush Serenade". You can listen online at www.krcl.org. I am on from 10 am to 2 pm MST, so if you are on the east coast it would be noon to 4 pm. If you do ever get to listen, email me! [email protected] Lori

I'll HAVE to tune in. Actually, I am a big folk music fan. We have a great club here that features lots of contemporary folk artists. I love going there. Not sure if your show has contemporary artists or more older more traditional folk or both. One of my staff used to do a Bluegrass Music show on the local station WAMU (American University) called Bluegrass Overnight. He alternated with 2 others so he did every 3rd weekend. Kathy

I'd love to have you try it Kathy. My show is a mix of contemporary folk artists, americana and a little jazzy folk. The great thing about being a volunteer deejay at a community radio station is I get to decide what to play...that is so great. I will do a Buck Owens tribute at some point today. I'm on every other Sunday as I share my show with another guy. Today is my day. Lori

Kathy, In two weeks it will be my radiothon show (fundraiser show). Not the best time to get an idea of what my show is like. The week after that, I've traded Sundays with my partner, so I'm on again on April 16. If I think of it, I'll try and remind you. Michelle listened and emailed me. That was fun. Lori

Hey Miss Lorie, I was just catching up on posts... I'd love for you to post a reminder on here on the 16th so I can check you out too! I wanted to ask you if you have ever heard of Chris Knight and Family. They are considered Americana (which Is new to me) and Chris is my fiances cousin. We've been to their shows here in GA and always have so much fun. Barb

Will do Barb. I'm very familiar with an Americana artist named Chris Knight! I love him. But, when you say "Chris Knight and Family" I'm wondering if it is a different one? The songwriter I know, Chris Knight, writes beautiful (mostly very sad) stuff. He is also very shy. Lori

Hey Lori, It's probably not the same Chris Knight. The one I know quit his job, sold a beautiful home and 2 luxury cars to live off the land in Tennessee to raise his children. He is very spiritual and very into his family. They literally do not have electricity or running water and his music reflects their new lives. His story would definately stand out in your mind! Would've been cool if it was though! Some day if you are ever bored you can do an internet search and check them out. I think it comes up under John Christopher Knight. It's an interesting story.
