Support Group Discussion
I was at one of my support groups tonight and they had a psychologist in talking about making changes. A couple of the things he was talking about were "Self-Monitoring" and having a "Support System".
Well, for both of those topics what popped into my head was my Mayster board.
I really think that having Seven/Lori's Exercise post and Candi's Food post everyday helps me self monitor my diet and my exercise. I'm honest with both. It pushes me to be accountable for what I eat and how active I am.
This board has some of the most supportive people I've ever met. I have learned over time that I can post anything without judgement. People will provide constructive feedback, support, share their own related experiences or difficulties. This group really rocks.
I do participate a bit on other boards but at times there is just too much drama for my taste. But I always know that the May 2005 Board is a safe haven full of a diverse group of people with different backgrounds (or maybe not that different) that share so very mu*****ommon.
You guys ROCK.
Kathy
Kathy, I agree with you.
The May 2005 board seems to be filled with very fine people -- supportive and diverse.
I'm growing more and more away from the main board. It served an *incredibly* valuable role in getting my insurance paperwork submitted, the stress of getting my surgery approved, and the whole early post-surgery stuff. I feel like it's important that I pay back some of what I gleaned by sharing some things i've learned. It can be very fun, too.
But it's here that I get my greatest support right now. Thanks to everyone here for that.
Eileen
Ain't it the truth? I've come to this board at least 4 times a week since I found out about it and the support and acceptance that I find here is not found elsewhere. Even though we are located all across the country, we are going through the same things at the same time, and I believe we TRUELY care about and for one another. You guys have been the best support group. Head and shoulders above the local surgeon's office support group which is for the most part comprised of hopeful pre-ops.
Thanks you guys for being so great.
