One of those days....

Ya know, some days I feel as if I can eat anything in any amounts. I will be eating my lunch and stop more out of boredom from eating whatever it is rather than an actually feeling full, but will be ready to eat again within an hour or two (I just drink lots cuz I know it's mental). Today is not one of those days. Today is one of those 'other' days when absolutely nothing feels like it is sitting right, almost like a stuck feeling. My breakfast went down okay (1 egg with 2% cheese, 2 slices turkey bacon, and almost a whole slice of 100% whole wheat toast) but NOTHING else has sat okay. I had like 2-3 bites of tuna for lunch and it felt stuck. I ate a handful of one of my favorite snacks (almonds, cashews, and raisins mixed together) and it just felt stuck. Even my protein drink didn't sit well with me. For dinner I had stuffed salmon, brussel sprouts, and mac-n-cheese (I would have preferred rice, but the kids wanted it, LOL). I had a few bites of the salmon, 1 sprout, and a few bites of the mac-n-cheese and it just didn't feel very good. It's so crazy to me from day to day how my eating habits are different. Isn't this just the craziest thing? Sometimes it's my period. I started this morning but for the last few days all I've wanted to do was eat - and today - NADA! I've not paid enough attention to see if this is a normal cyclic thing, but I'm guessing it is. I mean, I know the wanting to eat like a horse before is, but the non-eating the day of...could be. Craziness! Michelle

Michelle, Hunger is hormonal... insulin plus something else called ghrelin. So, perhaps fluctations in the female hormones when your period is impending could cause changes in hunger levels. For me (and Becky too I believe), we seem to lose weight only 1 week a month and that is right before our periods. I'm there right now with my period due next week sometime and I'm now dropping weight where I hadn't been for several weeks. I'm not losing much these past couple of months (2-3 per month) but at least it is in the right direction. I know that my hunger level varies from day to day. Perhaps not as dramatically as what you described. I don't have feelings of things not sitting well unless I've eaten something dry or too fast. Sometimes I'm just apathetic towards food. Just aren't really hungry or into it but it isn't stemming from a feeling in my pouch. I eat on days like that because I know that I need to in order to stay strong. Good luck to ya! Hope today is a better day! Be well, Kathy

I'm only losing about one week/month, too but that's usually the week AFTER my period - the week before I usually put on about 4-5 pounds. Last month was a perfect example. I had been down to 220, a day or two before my period I stepped on the scale and it said 226 (!!!!!) but afterwards it was 218. So, Friday I step on the scale and it said 219. I started my period yesterday so I'm assuming after my period I'll be somewhere in the 213-214 range. Today, so far, I'm in the middle of my breakfast and it seems to be going down okay. We'll see what the rest of the day holds! Michelle

Oh wow - so I am normal! I notice that I only drop about once a month - I haven't paid attention to whether it has anything to do with my period, but I know I go for long periods of time without dropping an ounce on the scale. My clothes continuously seem to be getting bigger - which is causing an UNWANTED addition to my credit card bills, but I guess its better than having things too tight! I must say I am not loving the fact that I have to buy new clothes every month. I think I went nuts at a size 12 thinking that was where I would be for a while, and now I am having to get rid of all of them...and even the darn 10s are getting big. I think I am going to start trying to sell them on ebay or something - I only get to wear them a few times!!
